Tire Temperature Monitoring

by Per Schroeder

Hot Lap Motorsports has a new onboard tire temperature monitoring system that could help racers and autocrossers get the most out of their tires. Their Optigrip has a dash-mounted LCD screen that displays data from four wheel-well-mounted infrared sensors. The sensors read the temperatures of each tire’s tread face in real time.

Compared to the traditional method of taking tire temperatures—cruising down the pit lane and then waiting for someone to use a pyrometer at all four wheels—the Optigrip yields more immediate results. The complete system retails for $549 and includes everything needed to monitor tire temperatures at speed. Hot Lap’s Web address is hotlapmotorsports.com. You can also get in touch with them by calling (973) 997-9016.

Share & Save: What's this?

If you're reading this, you've probably seen these odd links with funny names somewhere on the site and want to know what they're all about. Well, prepare to feel a bit more Net savvy. Those links are what the geeks call "social networks."

Social networking sites allow you to store and share links and pages across the Internet. It's like taking your bookmarks list and being able to see it from any computer.

Even better, social networks allow you to steer friends, relatives, colleagues and pretty much anyone else to the cool stuff you've found, so they have something better to do online than watching the skateboarding squirrel video on YouTube for the thirtieth time. You're making the world a better place.

The only catch is that while all the social networks are free, you do have to register. Each site has a slightly different focus, so take a look through the links and see which service suits you best.

LOVE the Optigrip! No matter how quick you can get into the pits and check your tire temps you just do not know what they are doing at different points on the track without this sort of device. Even better, this is simple, easy to install and affordable.

I do feel the need to admit that I do know Kyle of HotLap but do NOT have any personal interest in this product aside from being a fan of its use and function.
