Who Sings the Most About Cars?

Ever wonder who sings the most about cars? The Beatles? Bruce Springsteen? Eminem? Ludacris (pictured)? According to a recent scientific study by Gold Eagle, the musician who sings about cars the most is Lil Wayne. In fact, after analyzing more than 100,000 songs, they note that their list was dominated by rap and hiphop artists.

But that doesn’t mean that other genres aren’t ignoring cars. Some other GRM favorites like Weird Al, They Might Be Giants and the Dead Milkmen made the list as well.

So, what are some of your favorite songs about cars?

Actually, that's all I can think of right now, but I'm sure there's more.

Wait.... how did the Beach Boys not get on that list? They've probably put out at least 88 car related songs next to Bruce Springsteen's 88 isolated references.

Kind of surprising that Punk rated the lowest car mentions, but has some of the coolest car-related album covers.

For favorite songs about cars, I'm going to nominate Johnny Cash's "One Piece at a Time".

Most notably, he has a line about a turbo Vette and an entire song title  Carz with gratuitous V12 noises.

Not that they're really legit punk these days, but Rise Against mentions cars or has car-related metaphors in a ton of songs.

Most of the songs off "Mack Daddy" reference cars someplace:

Testarossa - duh

Swap Meet Louie - "76 Cutlass"

One Time's Got No Case "Keepin That Porsche in Fifth"

Mack Daddy "Four-door Rolls with the black exterior, Turbo Bentley, white interior"

Baby Got Back "Fonda Ain't Got a Motor in the back of her Honda"

Seattle Aint B**lsh*tting "Caddillac was the car I wanted And I got that seven-seven Coupe with the trues and straps"

I haven't listened to that song in a decade until now, and man, the lyrics are brilliant as relating to cars. Has to be the best straight-up car analogy song ever written.

Though it makes me laugh when at the end he's like "two hundred thirty [horsepower] up on ya." Ah, back when 230hp was badass :)

The members of Odd Future feature a lot of car content in their work.

Frank Ocean has a McLaren F1 Longtail, McLaren F1 GTR, Gulf-livery Aston DBR9 and an E30 M3 in the video for Nikes. His song American Wedding has a line about a fox body 5.0 and the cover of the mixtape also features an 87+ 5.0 liftback. Acura Integurl is about his 1991 NSX, Commes de Garcon has a line about a freaking Sauber C9 and The Channel Orange booklet has an E39 540i Touring in it. He also owns a few E30s including one he converted to right hand drive.

Earl Sweatshirt has a 2-door VW Quantum in the video for Hive and he named his sub-label Tan Cressida.

Tyler, The Creator references the E46 in his song Tamale, 2Seater uses BMWs and Benzes to illustrate relationships.

Also from Sir Mix-A-Lot (Sprung On the Cat): "Brother named Dave in a Corvette, had a job at the UPS. I ain't dissin' cuz UPS pays money, but Dave wants to kick it with the honeys. We all know a Corvette only got two seats, but Dave wasn't listenin' to me."

Hey Hotrod by Clint Black (one of my all-time favorite car songs): "Down at the strip you see 'em waitin' in line. Lay down the rubber, let the motors unwind. Don't matter whether you can drive it that good if you ain't got it revvin' under the hood."

105 by Fred Eaglesmith: "I like to drive at a hundred and five. It's just how fast I've got to go. I've got the gears and I've got the motor, got no reason to go slow."

Well, I know that now. I'm a lot more aware of cars than private jets, it turns out. It makes more sense that it's about a plane but it's a lot funnier if you think it's about a car. I figured that Pontiac had scored the greatest artist sponsorship deal ever.
