I'll bet it's not a 350. My guess is that he knows it is a V8 so he assumes it is the famous GM V8. I think more likely that its a 260 or possibly a 307 but more likely a 260.
It should be a 260. I once had an 80 Cutlass LS with a 260. It was adequate, but then again I also drove a full-size 84 Delta 88 with a 3.8, so I may be more accustomed to the snail's pace.
