Well, assuming diesels are legal in your state it should be able to pass. It probably smokes less than a an unmodified one because it's getting plenty of air, and the fuel flow is still at stock levels. No Rollin' Coal here.

I have Vintage WA plates on it now.

So how mich power is that 300sd motor capable of without extensively modifying the pump?

Without modifying the pump it's not going to get much more than the factory 115 HP. If you modify the pump: https://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1335382635569

The later 6 cyl engines are good for crazy power.

If I were ever going to try a W123, this would be the time to jump in. Between the VGT and the springs, that's an impossibly cool example of the type.

But a 14-second 0-60 and 50mph cruise suggest to me that a diesel W123 may just be too slow for me.

I am bummed. Also, slightly relieved. Too many other cars to get through.

Did I see an intercooler in that video? Is it staying with the car?

Neat car.

Yes, it's staying with the car. It's an air/water intercooler with a Honda Goldwing radiator.

Somebody asked about how I am controlling the VGT. I am using both a pressure actuator (controlled by boost) and a vacuum actuator (controlled by "manifold vacuum" which is simulated by a vacuum control valve from an automatic transmission Mercedes.)

Okay sweet. I'm still enroute to California. Once I get a place I'll most likely fly out and check it out if it's still around.

It's a very good thing that thing is clear across the country and I'm broke. With the short rear end it would be a great commuter for my 32 miles each way slog on secondary roads. I learned to drive on a 240D and always thought a 5 cylinder with the stick shift would be a nice rolling couch/bank vault for burning miles.
