Like the title says, I'm picking up an early '85 944 to part out. I need a few things and a friend needs a few things, but everything else will be sold! The body and interior is a little rough, and it's got a bad clutch. Brown interior, cookie cutter wheels, 5 speed. I'll post pics and more details when I get it. Let me know if you're looking for anything in particular!

Aww, I'm a friend? Thanks, buddy!

Is the shifter as wobbled out as they usually are? If not, I'll take that, too!

Corey Noooo, we had so many good times, like designing that braking system (that was like 3 years ago)... I may be in need of some parts for my 356, upgrading the rear axel and changing it to Pcar hubs. Are the front calipers claimed yet?

... I may also need uhh... no I may not need anything else, are the trailing arms steel? I could possiibly take both trailing arms and all the e-brake hardware since the offset is less than the aluminum ones I've got.

Of course you are! Facebook says so! And you are one of two (I think) forum members that have been to my house.

I didn't think to check that when I looked at it, but I'll check it as soon as it's delivered. It should be coming home sometime this week.

The calipers aren't claimed yet, but one of mine is leaky. I've already got the seal kits, so now that I'm parting this one I'll probably pull these, rebuild them, and swap for mine just so my car has less down time. So when that's all said and done I'll have a pair of calipers for sale, but the right one leaks a tiny bit. The trailing arms should be the steel ones, being an early car, and all the e-brake stuff is there.

That being said, I'm probably going to wait to sell the suspension and wheels last so I can still roll it around. But once I start parting it, it shouldn't take long.

In reply to 16vCorey: Yeah totally understandable, always is the last part to go. I wont know for a little if the offset from the late trailing arms is totally unworkable (gotta get to casa de thwaite for axels and a few other odds and ends).

The car is now at a friend's house. I haven't checked out the shifter yet, but my friend said that it feels like it's disconnected, which means someone took it apart, or it REALLY worn out and fell apart. Here's the pics.

Oh, and the only notable option code is M018, which is "SPORTS STEERING WHEEL WITH ELIVATED 30 MM HUB".

What is with the hood? Did it have an engine fire?

It must have at one time. I've seen a few 944 fuel rails crack, and the burnt spot on the hood is right above the fuel rail. Nothing on the engine looks burnt though, so it must have been repaired (mechanically speaking).

I might be able to use a few parts for my '87

How is the Power Steering system (pump, hoses, reservoir, brackets)? The PO on mine removed all this stuff, but left the P/S rack in place. I'd like to put the system back together.

Does the rear hatch lock have a key and does it work?

What is the condition of the rear hatch side carpeted trim panels? Mine are missing

How much $$ for those parts?

I definitely have the hatch lock and key, and the rear carpet is in pretty good condition. I'll have to check on the PS stuff, but I know I need one of the brackets for a friend's car, and mine has a slight leak, so I might need a hose (I know it's not the pump, I just changed that). I know I'll at least have the pump, reservoir, and most of the brackets and hoses.

How about $40 shipped for the carpet pieces, hatch lock, and key? I'll let you know what PS pieces I have left when I get these two sorted out.

$40 sounds good. If you are going to this year's Challenge, I'll be there and I can pick up the parts at that time.

I'm not sure if I'm going to make it, but I can definitely send them down with a friend. Just look for the '86 Escort with two friggen' engines!

The passenger seat doesn't look awful. Can the driver's side seat be cleaned up enough to be presentable?

I'd be interested in both. I need cloth in my non-AC car.

I went to get some things off of the car last night (it's parked at a friend's house) and the rear side carpet is pretty sun faded. It's all there and not torn up, but you'd probably want to re-dye it if you'd like it to be brown.

Not a problem. I am going to dye it black anyway.

BTW, payment now by paypal, or cash to your friend at the Challenge?

The exterior handles are already sold (they were the non-script handles) and the interior handles are the early style plastic ones.

Script handles are way later than this. Early cars had the wierd metal handle with faux woodgrain plastic inserts. Also, I don't believe any 944 were ever sold with metal interior handles. There are a few aftermarket companies that make them, though.

I still have a ton of parts left. 103k miles

Engine - $500

Trans - $250

Wheels - $200

I do have a passenger side script handle I'll take $50 for, if keithj is still looking.
