Stupid question: Whats the difference between the Impala and Caprice in these years? I had previously thought the Impala was the two door model of the Caprice, but obviously was wrong.

I might be wrong on this but from what I could find years ago, the Impala name was only used on police cars after a certain year.

I couldn't get the "edit" feature to work on the above post but I forgot to mention that the car has positraction also.

I'm pretty sure the Impala was the downmarket model, and the Caprice Classic was the fancier trim model. Also, the Caprices usually came with 350cid motors, while the Impalas made due with the 305. You can tell the difference because the Caprices had a stand up hood ornament, and fancier interiors.

disclaimer: This is all from memory, and may not be perfectly correct.

Police cars have 350 engines, with oil coolers.
