There may be something wrong with me, I want to keep the slant six but add a few Mopar power parts (assuming they are still available...SOMEWHERES, for this application). Someone around here has a '75 Duster painted a baby blue. It's a decent car, just don't want to spend $2500 on a non-running 35 year old car right now.

I like the idea of hot rodding the Slant 6 myself. I'm sure the power potential would be limited but I would hope that would be balanced out by using the available engine and potentially sourcing some power parts inexpensively. Course, since the 6 wasn't raced much those power parts may be hard to find and therefore just as expensive as anything else.
The toughness of the slant 6 is legend. I wonder if the best way to go would be to turbocharge it until it pukes it guts out.

Just because of post directly above this one, I'll add a bit more.
I don't if or how much the slant six was used in racing, but "in it's day" there were amazing power parts for it. There was a 4 barrel setup and an intake manifold that had tubes so long it's a wonder they were able to fit them under the hood. The tubes stretched from one side of the car to nearly the other. I'm sure these engines could have been close to the power levels of OHC Pontiacs when all the "right" parts were assembled. Darts saw some Trans Am type racing, not sure what class, but the cars raced were usually 4 door sedans.

Brett, I got a call from the owner last night.
Rocker panels are solid, the rear sub-frame (unibody) appears newer than the rest of the car. The front sub-frame has rust but no holes. The floor under the driver's feet has been replaced but not with NOS material.
The block has a rod sticking out of it.
