    Cobra seller said:

when you sell something on craiglist and list the price, scammers will e-mail you offering to buy the item, send you more money than you are asking, and then ,you are to send the difference back to them, this is known as a scam, so, by listing $1 as the price, they won't bother with you, and a serious buyer will call you if they really are interested

Three emails later he admitted it was $20k.

So wouldn't a scammer email offering $10 and you have to send $9 back?

  • jrw1621

    Jan. 26, 2012 7:41 a.m. jrw1621 SuperDork

A real scammer would say yes to $20k and then send you $22k asking you to send the $2k to his "fake" shipping company

Anybody have any idea what body kit that is? It looks like a slab sided Cobra, which I like much better.

A slab sided cobra? Wouldn't that just be the AC ace before shelby flared it?

  • Jan. 27, 2012 7:50 a.m. spitfirebill SuperDork

Pretty much, except the front end is different. The Cobra doesn't have the brows under the lights. Does anybody know if AC ever used the exact same body as the Cobra, before Shelby got ahold of it?

Edit: nevermind. Googles found a 59 Ace that has the same front end as the Cobra.

I think it's a 289 FIA body, but I don't know who made it. I've always liked 289 Cobras more than the 427s.

289 Cobras did not have the flares. The kit car in question is just a 289 Cobra replica. The FIA's were 289 Cobras with some changes for racing. The 427 Cobra is the one with the flares. Doesn't everyone know this?

  • Jan. 27, 2012 12:17 p.m. spitfirebill SuperDork

289 FIA had flares. Maybe not as big as the 427.

Correct. I can see how my post was misleading.
Here's a site that has pics of the reg 289 Cobra, the FIA and the Dragonsnake.

I hate $1 craigslist prices. Man up and put the price you are asking.

WOW, the rubber on that car....looks like 225X14 tire with a 95 or 100 profile. I mean, it almost looks like a tractor with a Cobra body kit.

I usually flag adds with a $1 price as spam (I most of the time just exclude them from whatever I search for though).

Thanks for the link. For some reason I was thinking the FIA car was more like the 427.

  • bravenrace

I called the guy. He makes these things. The $2500 is for a rough body only. A "cheap" frame is another $2500. A racing type frame is $7-8. A finished car is $85k.

  • March 2, 2012 1:55 p.m. mrjoshm New Reader

$2500 did seem a little too good to be true, so I asked him who the kit manufacturer was and he just left me a number... I didn't call. I guess it's good to know there is a guy in my area making cobra bodies though...

This guys name is Bruce. i have bought some miata parts from him. I usually stop buy his garage a few times a summer just to see what he has going on. he builds some neet stuff out of what amounts to to a 2.5 car barn/garage. Quality is decent, his ideas are insane, and his prices are even crazier! He was building a full tube frame Chetah replica for a guy in AZ last time I stopped buy, and the price he was charging him, well lets just say I bought my house for less... If you are around the Dravosburg area of Pittsburgh, its worth stopping just to BS with him for a bit, he is a good guy all in all. Paul
