I met a local guy the other day(a really cool old guy, he helped design the Numatrol systems for GM and is a true DYI GRMer at heart), he has a 78 Brat parked next to his barn that he bought brand-new & has less than 50kmi on it. Unfortunately, most of the body has returned to earth(the fenders are almost detached at the top & bottom, rockers are pretty gone, etc.). He was talking about scrapping it this summer, but I figured the drivetrain might be of interest to someone.

No idea on a price, but if anyone is interested you can contact me. Car is located near the IL/IN border about 100mi south of Chicago.

I don't suppose it's one that could fire up and drive to MO, is it? I really don't want another rustbucket, but heck...I do so want a brat (which I would pronounce like the abbreviation for bratwurst, should I own one).

If you could snap a few pics, that'd be great. One of my buddies has a Brat and would probably be interested in a donor.

My friends and I called it "the Bart" back in High School. No idea why I'm posting this LOL.

From what I could tell, there's more sheetmetal missing, than still remaining. He said it was last started about 6-years ago, but the engine is still together with air cleaners & everything on it, so he didn't think it would be locked up.

Oh, and judging from the moss growing on the inside of the driver's window, that would be a long, long drive back to MO.

I'll get a pic next time I'm out - which will probably be at least several weeks.

Yeah...sitting for 6 years means there's no way I'd bet it would make it onto a trailer, past the end of the driveway, or even to the nearest gas station...let alone across the midwest to another part of the midwest ;).

It would be cool to own a Brat someday, though...

Paint a flag on it and you could kick it "My Name is Earl" style.
