1985 Renault Fuego? I'm sure even the local gas station has parts on hand for that car.

Did Renault steal fords design book sometime in the 80's? That looks damn close to a Ford Escort of that era.

You would be suprised. Rockauto looks to have pretty much all you would need to keep that car rolling and most of it looks quite reasonably priced.

Ran great 10+ years ago. Awesome .

Like Alfa Suds, Fuegos are rarely sold in anything other than 'project' condition, for a few hundred dollars or free.

I really like some of the French car designs, as they are so ... bordering on wacky/absurd. (I would almost want to own one of these Fuegos and / or a Renault R15.) But the cars that the U.S. got all seemed to run right up until the 1st owner made the NEXT to last payment.

And can someone tell me why/how someone can say "...ran the last time I drove it, ten years ago."? I mean, if it really was running back then...why didn't you do something with it? Drive it or sell it?

my grandfather in law has an 88 fuego thats been garaged since the late 90s. 82k on the ticker and a 5 speed. Paint and body are straight - 8 of 10 - and interior is clean too. I am not sure whats going to happen to it (he doesnt drive anymore, and none of his kids want it). Im hoping to turn it into a challenge car here soon.

Fuegos only came to the US through 1986 and Renault pulled out of North America altogether after '87.

If it really is an '88, it probably came grey market from Argentina or Europe.

We had a friend who had one when I was in High School. I think it was a turbo? I got to drive it a couple of times and thought it was really cool. Totally forgot they existed.

Huh, could be. I know the engine went north/south. Seemed weird for a FWD car.

Sounds like good potential for a RWD transplant. Does the engine and/ or trans have performance potential tho?
