[edit: Skip way down to the bottom. This package has changed shape dramatically. It's now a $500 drivetrain donor deal]

    Hey all,

I've got a wrecked '91 Miata and the pieces to put it back together. That is, a straight tub [edit: Tub, hood, finish panel are sold] and bodywork, engine, suspension, interior, etc, etc. Basically, everything from the wrecked car needs to be swapped to the tub. I've got uninstalled mazda sport engine mounts that come with it. [edit]: It also has a pretty new softtop on it. I installed it shortly before I got the hardtop, both of which were shortly before the car got smashed

    $1,500 firm.

I'll let the package go WITH the hardtop for $2000 (however, I won't sell the hardtop individually)

Check my profile for my "readers rides" page that I believe has some photos.

You'll need a trailer big enough for two miatas (the tub is NOT rolling), two trips with one trailer, or a flatbed and a trailer...the tub perches nicely on a flatbed pickup.

This pile of parts is located in Columbia MO, midway between KC and STL.

Want to trade for a '74 Beetle?

If you want to do the swap in Mid-MO...You've got a deal ;)

Which reminds me, I am interested in trades. I know that actually selling this project is a longshot due to price and location and all...but I thought I'd throw it out there before I got myself into trouble by trying to do something with it.

Seriously though, that Beetle looks potentious!

Hmmm...let me see if I can work out the logistics vs. cost. But yeah, I'm interested.

Do you have any pics of the tub? What's the details on it, any rust?

I'll try to get some photos of the tub. Hopefully I'll get some this weekend.

The only rust I recall is just the tiniest spot starting in the most typical place I know of (right in fron of the rear wheel opening in the rocker area). It's up on stands, so I should be able to get some good views of the whole car. It's certainly no rustbucket.

The donor tub is a '94, I believe (I'll reconfirm that...or maybe psteav remembers). The wrecked car is an early '91 with shortnosed crank.

Tub is a '97. Clem bought it from me after I parted the car out. Dash, steering column, front subframe, and harness are still in it, pretty much everything else is gone. Car had been hit once in the LF (I think? Maybe RF), hard enough to require a new fender but not enough to require a frame pull.

It's quite straight and the rust is so minor that I never even saw it despite crawling around, over and through the car for three months.

I still have this setup available...someone offer me an interesting trade before I decide to work on it ;).

The tub has been stripped some since Psteav saw it last (dash and column, most notably). I moved the wrecked car out to GeneralHavoc's home for wayward projects the other day (like I said...I'm about to pull the trigger on this one and start putting it back together) and it fired up with a marginal battery, no problems.

    I want a boat or a motorcycle...

I want a welder, a toolbox, something rear drive or 4 wheel drive, (malibu, cutlass, crown vic, caprice, mustang, capri, falcon, pinto, beetle, the list goes on)

    ;)

Why don't any of you people live in PA/NY/NJ?

I have all sorts of evil plans rolling thru my head that require convenient access and every one of these pops up somewhere that makes the fuel bill to bring it home cost more than parts.

I would be interested if I had a good way to get it over to the Birmingham area.

I recall you saying you come this way every now and then. Want to drop it by my house?

Did you ever take pictures of the other body?

I'll trade you for the V8 RX-7 Project in my garage.

Well...I'm not getting to Birmingham so much now that the new model Pilot launched...and if I was, I don't think I could carry these suckers on and stuff them in the overhead storage compartment or under the seat in front of me ;). The RX7 Project looks neat though!

I did get more photos of both cars. If anybody needs photos, post here and I can email them out.

    Thanks, Clem

    Wanna meet halfway? ;)

I don't know if I can wedge the tub on the trailer sideways and the roller behind it ;). Furthermore...moving it to another trailer in the middle of nowhere could be interesting ;).

Anybody want to trade a BMW E30 project for my piles of parts?

I've got a bunch of photos of these...I'll try to get some on photobucket this evening and post up...

    Thanks, Clem

    Update...

The straight tub, finish panel and hood are sold. I have a complete wrecked miata that could be bought. I might start parting it soon, but frankly I'm not too interested in shipping because I'm in the middle of a divorce and renovating a house. Time is precious.

Look under my reader's rides for a scary picture of the wrecked car...

I dunno...I don't dare ask you how much you'd be willing to give ;)

I could also work a deal on this as a "Locost" donor. I can keep some of the stuff a locost builder wouldn't need (top, doors, etc), and the rest can drive onto a trailer and be hauled to your shop for locost duty...

The topic title really isn't applicable anymore since I sold the straight unibody...not much hope for a Spec Miata build now.

  • June 25, 2009 3:34 p.m. petegossett Dork

You're reading my mind....of course, I'd rather just have the Locost bits & not have to deal with hauling the shell.

What I have now is probably much more suited to locost donor than anything else.

Iv'e got the rolling shell with drivetrain and suspension (except wheels...so rolling is a stretch).

It has been pillaged of all usable bodywork (including the quarter panels).

I've got honda wheels on hand to help roll it onto a trailer (and then pull them back off).

    $500.

Good drivetrain and suspension donor for something...

Just a bump on this one.

Some folks have emailed me asking for particular parts. I'm not exactly in a position to part it out myself. However, if someone local or coming through was in need of parts and wanted to pull them, we could work out a deal.

I have bumper covers, a couple misc. body parts, and a radiator/fan setup that comes with the car as well.

I'm open to offers, trades, etc.

    Thanks,
    Clem
