Very carefully inspect for frame rust - I looked at one out here (where rust isn't that much of an issue) and it had a bunch of holes in the frame. Oddly enough it was worse than the one I had in the UK, and that's saying something.
Very occasionally I get the hankering for another one, though. After all, together with the Grand Wagoneer these things are the original SUV.

That an the tailgate is open in the photo, might be reading into it too much, the tailgate latch is a chronic problem with those. The aluminum bodies sometimes fool folks into thinking they are in great shape despite what lurks underneath. The lower tailgate isn't aluminum, if it appears to be the original one and not rusted, you've found a rare beast. On the frame, check near the fuel tank, those crossmembers are prone to rust.
