With the Internet it's easy to find parts, pieces and clubs. I don't know of many hop up items available, but don't be afraid of the car for that reason. Actually don't be afraid of the car for any reason. I wish I had garage space....

Corvair's actually have a decent aftermarket, mainly because of Clark's. Look out for rusty front cross members, even on rust-free cars.

You can put an LS1 in one. Not much more hop up items would be needed then.
