I think just the "oiled" engine was stored inside

Reserve under $1500. Should be $1499 under $1500.
I know of a 74 TCS with no engine or trans for $1400. That's high for the car, but that's what he has in it. At least the body is all there and relatively clean.

P1800, 944 and two Europas. Is the owner already on the forum?

Doc What would one do for a trans for the car of which you makes speaks. Just use a transverse one like from a Toyota or Honda?

thats a pretty sweet indoor storage unit he has there. welcome to the great indoors?
maybe he forgot the words "car has map pockets so that stuff can be" before the phrase "stored indoors"

Well, for a transmission, you have several choices. You can find a 5 speed trans from a TCS, you can buy a trans from some Renault Fuego or something (I forget the exact model) and do some minor mods to the guts, or you can blaze new territory and go transverse. That's what I'm doing with Dr.Linda's S2. The people putting 4AG's in have been buying the Fuego boxes because the bell housing fits better on the 4AG than the bell housing that was bolted to the Ford block, I think. That other TCS is near Mena, AR.
I put my AE92 Rolla next to my 74 TCS, hoods up and got out the tape measure. The 4AGE/5 speed would fit back there with some minor frame sawzalling and welding. The biatch is doing the control arms for the suspension, but should be doable. I hope so, 'cuz that's kinda what I'm going to do with the S2, except with a 1NZ motor.
Another really cool route, totally unblazed terrirtory, would be to use that inline V6 and 5 speed (not transverse, the inline) from that Honduh or Acura something or other. That would be very interesting in a 1500 lb car.

The Honda Vigor had an inline 5...I think.
Hmmmmm

Yeah, that's it. The Honduh Vigor. According to wiki, which must be true because it's on wiki, the earlier ones had a B20 motor. All I know about Honduhs is that the timing belts on a goldwing will break and the water pump will leak and both are bad things, the car motors run backwards and the motor in my generator kicks azz. But don't those B20 things get replaced with some kinda JDM motor by the ricers? So, could you take the 5 speed longitudinal trans and bolt it up to the JDM 160-ish HP civic motor that competes with the 4AGE 20 valve (God's own motor)? Then you'd have like 160-ish HP and a longitudinal 5 speed trans, with good reliability and that would be way cool in a Europa. You'd still have to fiddle with the suspension linkage, as I don't know if the Honduh transmission could take the internal load of the drive shaft acting as a suspension member. I'm guessing not.

Did a little Googling last night. Looks like the US Vigor engine was behind the tranmission and longitudinal.

Didn't know that. Humm. Then if you turn it around and put a regular rotation motor in front of it, the wheels will still turn the right way...
Anyway, I think a transverse setup would be way cool and easier, or no more work.

I have been curious about whether it would be possible to eliminate the torque tube in a 944 and find a bellhousing that would mate the engine directly to the transaxle. (Something from Audi?) Then what are the chances that my creation would fit in an Europa?

How long would your resulting Frankenstein be from harmonic balancer to the center of the axles? That would be your limiting factor. A TC/TCS has a fairly wide engine bay, so it would probably be OK that way, perhaps with some minor notching at the front.

I know it's wide, but how about a Subaru?

The frame is very narrow at the height of the crank.

Sawzall, welder, some tubing....

In reply to Dr. Hess:
The late B20s have a VTEC head put on them a lot of the time. The Vigor however had the B20A which is a very different engine with not very much aftermarket support (compared to other Honda engines).

I was thinking again, always dangerous. This Honduh with the backwards mount, that is, transmission in the nose, then the 4 or 5 cylinder motor. That's how the original Renault was set up that the Europa drivetrain came out of. They flipped the ring gear, I believe, and then mounted it engine first, then transmission. If not the Europa drivetrain, I know the Renault gear box used in the Esprit was like that and had the ring gear flipped. So, could you do that to the Honduh Vigor box and then flip the thing around? That would be interesting.
Me, I got me a 1NZFE and trans from a xA for Dr.Linda's Europa. Now I just need time and some more MIG wire and Sawsall blades.

For years I've been hearing about flipping the ring gear. Just how easy is this?

It went for $515... for anyone in NWOH there are two Fuegos in KRAP. If you're from here you know what that is.
