1988 Mazda 323 GTX Dead engine, good chassis, decent gearbox, clear Utah title
The speedo cable was disconnected when purchased by the previous owner, but it's estimated that there is about 150k miles on the car. The chassis in very good shape. The only rust problem that I've found is on the right-rear fender (very common) and a tiny spot of surface rust on the sunroof panel. The rocker panels are rust free at the last inspection. No rust has been observed on the front or rear strut towers.
I've owned the car for the last 10k miles and have complete maintenance logs of the work I've done, along with a pile of receipts from previous owners. The car has been off the road since June 2006 after the engine overheated, so it will need to be towed/trailered away.
Recent work:
- New front CV axles (from Raxles) approx. 8k miles ago
- Power windows replaced with manual windows (power window hardware sold)
- Falken ZIEX ZE-512 tires (185/60-14) with less than 10k miles on them
- New shifter bushings (Jacsport)
- HKS J-pipe
- Alternator replaced by previous owner shortly before selling
The Bad:
- Current engine overheated badly and most likely not rebuildable
- Worn second gear synchro (common, bad only in the summer, works fine if you do the 1-2 shift slowly)
- Small amount of rust at right-rear wheel arch
- Small spot of surface rust on sunroof panel
- Tears in driver's seat
- A/C components in engine bay have been removed (didn't work anyway)
Comes with:
- Short block from a '92 Miata (9.0:1 CR, 102k miles) included
- Spare B6T head, which appears to be in very good condition (but dirty)
-
Many factory service manuals
- Small format with wiring diagram
- Large format in factory binder with body shop manual & training manual
- Large format (GTX-only sections, in different binder)
- PDF version on CD
- Probe/626 turbo intercooler (original intercooler included as well)
- Enough new bearings and seals for the next hub rebuild
- New valve cover gasket, distributor O-ring, and valve cover sealing washers (all still in the bags)
- One or two spare heat core assemblies
- A few additional small parts that I'm forgetting right now
