So, I traded joey48442 a hard top for a roll bar, and damned if the bar turned out not to be the one I wanted. Two thumbs way up for how he worked it out with me, but here I am left with a Hard Dog Sport Double Diagonal w/o harness bar.

It's a nice roll bar that would save your butt in a rollover, but not the Hard Core model I want. Normal cosmetic wear and tear, backing plates but none of the bolts. $300. They're $500 with shipping from Bethania Garage, so $300 seems like a good price for something that doesn't exactly wear out....

I'm in Ann Arbor. Willing to drive an hour to meet half way and sell this thing.

Its true. I berkeleyed up and had a hard dog sport, when I thought I had a hard dog hard core. Im glad paanta and I worked it out. But I still feel bad, so I want to offer to help deliver this thing. I live about an hour north of ann arbor, so if Paanta wants to drop it off at my house, I will keep heading further north, just cover my gas. I figure between the two of us we could have most of southern MI covered for shipping. Lets get this things sold! Its a nice bar!

would this be "track day legal".

If so I will talk to the CEO of my household. I'm in Appleton, WI so pick up may take a bit of work.

I did a lot of reading on forums to see if people had problems running a sport vs. the hard core model. I couldn't find any examples of people being turned away from an event, but it's not specifically SCCA Solo I legal. I think you'd be fine 90% of the time. It's a diagonally braced 4-point bar, and it's beefy, so it'd certainly do the job. And the fact of the matter is I think most tracks kinda look the other way with Miatas anyway, because no roll bar is going to be tall enough to give an average height helmeted drivers the right head clearance with stock seats.

I suppose you could also get nailed at a hyper-competitive autocross. You can drive without a roll bar, but any roll bar needs to be SCCA legal. Since it's not the right diameter tubing, it might get technically considered chassis bracing?

I'm going with the Hard Core just to be extra sure I never, ever have issues and because I want the extra inch of height.

Anyone ever shipped one via greyhound?

My folks live up in Traverse City, so I could get it up that way at some point, too.

Ok, I have a couple offers from people who would need it shipped.

Michiganders please save me the hassle of meticulously cutting cardboard and bubble wrap to fit around each tube. :)

FYI, the Sport is a 1.5" tube while the Hard Core is 1.75". The Sport also sits a bit lower so it's harder to get clearance. BUT - the Sport sits further back and is a bit more street-friendly and won't affect street travel. Choices, choices...

Regardless of which one you end up with, Hard Dog sells formed SFI padding for them and also has a really nice vinyl cover that velcros over top to protect the padding from UV and makes it look awesome. It's about $80 for the cover and the padding.

    Mild threadjack..

Will a hard dog double diagonal (sport or hard core) clear a robbins top with glass rear window? Or are there any that would clear that and be Solo legal?

I saw indications on the Flyin Miata site that they wouldnt fit with the larger window on those tops and was wondering what the options might be there.

I know that now... I thought the double diagonal made it a hardcore.

You can get the "Robbins option" on the diagonals. It moves them up a bit to give the clearance you need.
