I'm skeptical about 300 hp stock...and I'm not sure of the price in that ad (can't see it from work) but given the fact that it's listed here I'll assume it's pretty cheap. I'm VERY certain you can't get an SC400 for challenge budget. I've looked.

I guess I could look it up, but I think they started with 250 hp, moved up to 260 hp, and eventually on to 300 hp. Maybe it was only 290 hp. In any case, not so slouchy. If you found one trashed inside with a few warning lights on, you might be able to get one challenge priced, but it would be a stretch.
Gotta call BS on that Clem. I posted 2 SC400's for 1000.00 obo actually I think it was 900 from this crowd. 1 ran, but knocked, the other was a rolling shell. I've seriously considered an LS swap for a sc400, but he 1uz is sooo freakin smooth. Dunno what it would do to the character of the car.

Finding one LOCAL is the key. I know how posting two cars works...you rarely sell one runner and one roller. Getting two cars over long distances is too much hassle/cost/time for most folks. And neither of yours had a good engine...so most folks (not saying me...not saying everyone) wouldn't be interested at any price.
Anyway...call BS all you want. You can't find a drivable SC400 in my area (and by that I mean, would pass inspection) for under $3K. If your area is different, let me know where and I'll buy a one way ticket next year at this time and come buy one.
Now...I really don't know the condition of the car in the ad since I haven't seen it, but there's a good chance it's about the same condition and price as a stock SC400 project would be...so I'll admit my comments may have been out of place/illinformed.

Keep your eyes open Clem, I nabbed my two for approx 2k 3 years ago, drove her for 2 years before she started knocking. Was debating on dropping an old 383 I have sitting in the shed, along with a 4 speed in the roller and bringing it to the challenge. But it would prob end up being a nose heavy pig, so I decided against it. They are out there.
Yeah...I suppose diligence is key. Unfortunately, I won't be in SC400 buying mode for a while...so I have no business looking. (That doesn't mean I won't keep looking 
)
I will keep looking. And if that car was within 150 miles of Lansing I would be dragging it home right now.
