Bought a 97 318 and the motor is trashed, anybody know where I could get a CHEAP replacement to get it running?

Read....Cheap...as the most important part of the deal.

97 is the 1.9L but I would consider the 1.8 for the right price. Thanks, Alan

Erohsic...How did you know I have a 68 340 HiPo in the garage just sitting???? You are going to get me divorced. The wife just wants me to have a reliable dd... and the 340 really needs to go back into the 71 Challenger Conv.

Gimp...I em'd the m44, that is a great price, thanks.

The 1.9s should be mostly free and everyone who ever did a swap has one laying in the way (except me, I gave it away last fall).

Now... the 1.8L M42 is the one you really want if you have any sort of aspirations toward making it a puffer someday... those had forged internals and sodium valves.

The 6 cyl engines are cheaper than the 4s.
The M42 or M44 engines have issues with Oil starvation ( Head- Valves) when they get up there in milage.

The cheap 4 cyl is the single cam one from the 70s- the 2002s. or the 80s 320s. And they are only 98hp.

I have found the 325 engines with harnesses and Ecus for $800. That might be a better way to go.

Funny, I read that as he needed a quantity of 318 base Escort 1.9L engines.

I think you would be better off with one of them but who am I?

    Might I make a suggestion?

Buy a GM 4.8L V8, an LSx Camaro intake and a Camaro 6 speed and put that in place of the 4.

Better MPG, Better power, Moar Kewler.

Found a complete M44 in good condition for $350 but have to drive to just north of DC to get it.....

Anyone driving from MD or DC to anywhere near North Alabama for Turkey day and willing to carry about 400lbs of stuff??? I'll pay gas.

Dang it.... that means you got the ECU from that I wanted. I'll be at his house on Friday checking out some other parts.

There was a wrecked '91 318is with a M42 and a 5 speed for sale on the Hunstville craigslist a couple weeks ago. I talked with the guy and we was willing to sell the whole car for $450 - the car has rear end damage, but the glass, doors, fenders and hood are look good. The interior I think is ok. I thought about buying it for the engine a trannsmission and trying to part out the rest. The ad is no longer up - not sure if he sold the car or not. He was in Somerville, AL.
