Seller says: "Needs a cam sensor. Cranks doesn't start. Interior is gutted for rally racing. Still a solid car. Will take best offer. Manual trans. Good tread on tires. Was last running in October. Havent had the time to fix it."

so, it needs a $40 sensor (or $5 at any junkyard) and he hasn't had time to fix it?

Or it has a broken timing belt.

"It's an easy/cheap fix, but I haven't had time to do it" is a red flag on any CL ad.

Even if the engine is toast it still seems like that's a good deal IF the body is solid.

Agreed. Even better if it has an LSD.

How hard is it to pop the distributor cap off one of these? That will tell you real quick.

What do you look for to indicate a broken timing belt?

In reply to thatsnowinnebago:

If the distributor doesn't turn while cranking, the cam is not connected to the crank, and that is a timing belt failure.

Starter is connected to crank, distributor is driven off of cam.
