So what engine would be best to swap into there? A newer Jag I6? DOHC toyota or Nissan I6? Isn't that recent GM I6 truck engine supposedly derived from a Jag design?

If that engine is dead, didn't the xj6 use that same engine up until the xj40 came out? Finding a spare should be easy if that's the case.

Yes, some folks put in the later fuel-injected motors, etc. I just saw two of these cars today that were fully restored. The beauty of them was as much in the interior wood and leather as anywhere else. Very expensive to restore from that condition, though.

Correct. Still, given the moneypittedness of these cars, the cost of the engine is most likely the least of the problems.
