We hit the track with Flyin' Miata's latest power adder.
I need a new set of gears (anything but a 2.73, prefer a 3.54) and a factory Trac-Lok or other LSD for an AMC / Jeep Model 20 Rear End (8.875" 8-bolt gear and a 29-spline diff).
If it's for your Javelin...
Can you toss in a Ford 8.8 instead? That's what we've been doing with our Jeep/AMC stuff. Cheaper, more readily available parts, strong like ox, and Ford Exploder ones have rear discs to boot! 3.55's and 4.10's came factory in the Exploders, too.
In reply to SilverFleet:
I have a Ford 8.8 from an Explorer, but it's way more work than you think. We have to shorten one axle tube, build a driveshaft, and it's going to be weaker (28 spline instead of 29, c-clips instead of semi-floating bolt-on axles, 8.8" ring gear instead of 8.875", and smaller axle bearings). The Model 20 gets a bad rap from Jeep guys that hammer the crap out of them on 35" tires with huge gears. There's literally hundreds of 10-second AMC's still on a stock Model 20, so it's way stronger than I need. I should be able to sell the 8.8 to cover the gears and install.
Exploders were 3.73 and 4.10. Wish they came in a 3.55. Exploders were 31 spline as were almost all of the truck based 8.8s The 28 splines were some Rangers and the car based 8.8s. You can narrow the one side thing and cut off all the brackets and make new brackets in one 8 hour day with hand tools. Less time if you have a plasma cutter and you don't have to cut out your new brackets with a sawzall and grinder. Trick to cutting the tube is with a large pipe cutter.
