    GRM powers that be:

I'm producing CD's of past local autocross seasons for give-away. They have hundreds of pictures from all of the local events (all taken by me, so I own the rights, blah blah blah). I'm trying to encourage local sponsors to logo them up and cover my (very low) material costs so I can afford to give them away free (as I really don't want to take money from my fellow friends/racers and I really don't want to be in business). Anywho, since they are free do I have to advertise in GRM to solicit sponsorship on them and/or offer them up here? If so, can somebody email me the particulars? Or the other way around, does GRM want to help sponsor them?

Like I said, this is a no-business, no-money operation. I just have taken hundreds (thousands?) of photos over the past 4 years and everybody wants copies, and handing out CD's seems like the best way to do so, but I don't want to have to foot the bill for the hundreds of CD's and jackets, but I have no issue with donating my time to arrange the pics and burn the discs.

    Does this make sense?

    Thanks for any responses/help.

    Michael

I now have my first supporter for this and the first batch of CD's/sleeves/decals purchased. So, uh, still awaiting official word...

(Will gladly logo them up with GRM stickers and include links to website...)

I'm not sure if that's an effective distribution mode or business model. How about putting stuff on photobucket (or the picasweb) and then charging people when they get emailed a specific image?

Perry Bennett seems to be doing well with this medium. http://www.perrybennett.com/

eek. i wouldnt go the CD route - maybe use dropbox or something similar. even just flickr or imgur, to get the pics to people.

The problem with any online distribution is the sheer quantity. I'd be uploading for a week after every event just to put the uncompressed files up on the web (believe me, I've done it, with multiple sites). All of these people are my friends and I want them to have access to the photos of them racing because it's fun to share. I have ZERO interest in making even one red cent off of this. I also don't have the equipment, time, software, or patience to do high end stuff, retouching, or even "professional" shots. It's just a high volume of digital pics.

Maybe I'll just have the local club sponsor it as an official club item, then we can give it to all the members for free and I won't have to deal with anything else.
