Why does the sway bar look like it's 29mm instead of 32mm?

Measurement is out by the zero not the end of the plastic.

Those are the DeCarbons. The same shocks all the v8 fbodies got (I think 6 cyls to but I can't remember) Slp suspension cars had bulletins. The 32mm bar is what all the ss/ws6 got compared to 30mms for the base v8s

Can you paint over the roof sealant? Thinking about doing it from the bottom side so end the end I guess it doesn't matter much.

Thanks, Dan

Quick update, was out for a funeral. Pulled the drivers side front wheel to replace the bad stud and what do you know the bearing sounds like a box of rocks!!!

On a positive note it looks like the kid did do the brake job he claimed.

Front wheel hubs are a known trouble spot on 4th gens. The bearing is kind of small, and those of us who autocross the cars seriously go through them like Skittles. You'll get an ABS Inop light when they start to go bad, and they can start to go bad very quickly--I've seen it in as few as 2 autoX runs. You can still run on them for a good while, though.

$10 dollar junk yard bearing is in the front end. As I put it in I noticed that 3 of 5 wheel studs had been replaced in it too!

Didn't go the roof sealant route, found this can of undercoating laying around. Have way more into moving it around then the purchase price, MN, OH, WI, VA, and finally using it in RI, originally purchased circa 1998.

Glad to see I did get some penetration on my welds!!

I removed all the insulation in a car once. Started slow cooking my feet on long drives. Unless there is big cash on the line insulation stays.

I have a set of stock g body lower rear control arms you can have if needed. I think they are the same.

Thanks for the offer I am going to take it apart and see what I can do with it.

Can someone tell what vehicles may offer a junkyard alternate to my current rear end ratio? Are the s10s and such the same rear end?

Im pretty sure the Fbody is the only GM that uses that torque arm setup. The autos came with 2.73s and 3.23. Every 94 up 6speed should have 3:42s. I believe the 3rd gens use the same setup but not sure. Also dont know what gear ratios they run.

Made it to the shop here to see if it would pass safety and emissions.

Passed safety no problem even with the ghetto fixes!!

Emissions was another story. Guy recommended cat clean....anyone had any experience with it or care to recomend an alternate snake oil?

Seafoam, LOTS and LOTS of smoke, did a good job helping me pass emissions. plus lots and lots of smoke.

Depends how you failed emissions, there are various things you can dope the fuel with to fake it out.

Make sure your cats are good and hot before you test. I've also heard that testing with E10 gas and a near empty tank can help, but I can't confirm that.

Thinking that someone might have gutted the cat and welded it back in at some point.

First pic is the cat temp second is the exhaust.

Any other ideas how to tell before I cut in a hole to look inside?

It is actually colder than the exhaust temp before and after it...doesnt seem righ!!

Either way street legal in RI!!

It's emissions stories like this that make me so glad I live in Kentucky where a catalytic converter is just that thing under your car that meth heads like to steal.

Good choice on an LT1 F body. A guy ran one a few years ago inthe challenge that was SWEET. Red Trans Am I think, he finished very well, top three I wanna say.

Torn into the door. Here is a good link for anyone looking for window adjustment instructions. Looks like my upper window guides are missing the soft part and it is just riding on steel...hope they have some at the yard!

Who needs new window guides, a few pieces of 1/2" fuel line does the trick.

Even messing with all the adjustments still didnt get it to close correctly, wonder if part of the linkage is bent.

Sorry I'm jumping into this thread late. I'm the guy that ran the red Trans Am at the Challenge as BoostedBrandon pointed out.

Anyway, as far as ring and pinions go, pretty much anything with a 7.5" ring gear will fit but beware that there are different carriers for different ratios. Your car probably has a 2 series carrier so if you want to use anything deeper than a 3.08 you'll need to get a 3 series carrier. Most, if not all, six speed cars had the carrier you need. There should be enough of them in the boneyard now for easy picking. As a bonus, if you can find a '98 or later car it should have a Torsen diff in it.
