You can see my story of my newest purchase here, https://grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/trips-adventures-and-get-togethers/700-miles-and-a-new-old-car/166301/page1/ , if you're interested in the quick read. There's pictures!

Wel after getting the Olds home, it was time to give it a good cleaning. That's usually been my first order of anything I pick up, and it really gives me an opportunity to go over every inch of the car and really take a look at it in depth. Well and see the stuff I usually miss when I'm in full car boner buying mode.

This was the night I got it to its new home, my mothers garage. (Hey she offered!)

Clean, but years of dust and barn dirt were in great supply.

My daughter, approves of the trunk,.

The car came with a bunch of receipts, manuals, and brochures, tucked into different places. That and the everything is absolutely original, gave credence to the fact this is an actual 14k mile car. Neat!

Also had to buy a sales brochure on eBay!

Did a good wash, and scrub with Meguiar's Gold class, then used a DA, with Lake Country pads, and used Meguair's Ultimate Compound, followed by their #7 (?) Polish, then #26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax. Tires/Wheel covers got Meg's Wheel Brightener.

That's also when I discovered the tires are about 25 years old. Yikes. New ones ordered, white walls of course. No dry rot on these though, would have never guessed the age. Car cleaned up nicely.

The best help!

Then had to fit it into the garage

Did Igniton stuff/Belts/Hoses/ Coolant/Fuel-Air filter/and an Oil change with some friends last weekend.

Plugs looked great!

Got my 1975 Illinois plates on the car today, yes it flurried.

And got my new air cleaner decal in the mail, along with some other reproduction decals to freshen up the engine bay, when the weather gets decent again.

Got a RockAuto box today with 4 new shocks, and tie rod ends.

And that brings us current. Thanks for reading! Not sure how much, if any, interest there is in this big fella, but I'll update as I got along. Goals this summer are to drive the hell out of it, and preserve, and enjoy it.

When my dad sold his '68 98 in '84 to a guy he worked with for $500 I made the decision to keep the air cleaner engine ID for wall art.

Hangs in my garage today as a reminder of all the gas I burned in that car.

That car is biiiiiiiiiiiiig.

Makes me wonder if one could build a home-brew motor home out of one.

Thanks guys! Looks like I'll be having a whole lot of time to work on the car here soon. So that's a positive out of all of the negatives with this virus thing.

This reminds me that I have a complete bracket set for one of these. I need to do something with it.

Replaced a dry rotted fuel hose today, and went for a drive. Cruised around downtown, and didn't interact with anyone or touch anything, so I was being socially responsible, and it was good to get out.

That is just one handsome vehicle.

What are the colors?

Looks like a cream color with a dark gray vinyl roof and then a light gray interior. However, that cream might actually be a grayed white, sort of a smokey white.

Or, in person, is it more of just a white with black top?

Following along! Beautiful car, I often daydream about cruising around town in something huge like this

Helluva car George, how did you find it?

"Relax Baby, you're in my town now".

Wait, you're in Chicago?  I might see you. I see you're a railroad guy and drive a diesel.

I was working with an Electro-Motive engineer and he came to me facility in a VW diesel and I had to mention his baby diesel in comparison to his daily locomotive diesels.

Gorgeous car, but I'd lose the wind deflector.  Very 80s but doesn't match the elegance of the cars.

Thanks guys! I appreciate it. It drives like an absolute dream and everything works. Even the stereo sounds great!

John: its "Dove Gray" over a "Space Gray" interior with a black top. It's a very light gray color, definitely not white but more of a blended in between color. I love it!

914: Facebook Marketplace! Guy I got it from, got it from the family of thr original owner who passed away in '98 and it was is the same small town most of its life, hence the 14k miles. Quite an original car

Datsun: I work for the Burlington Northern out of Aurora. I'm familiar with GM-EMD but there must be a few of us big/little diesel guys! Lol

Maj: I am going to pull the deflector off st some point to clean and polish it anyway. It's just so midwestern! Lol, but I agree it doesnt flow well.

That car is wonderful. (So's your daughter, obviously.)  Congratulations!

Time to update the brochure after 45 years: "It's a good feeling to have an Olds around you... when no one else is allowed to be."

The color, the size, the make.... All of it! I rode home from the hospital in the back of a 1970 Olds 98 Convertible, so I'll always have a soft spot for these behemoths. Yours looks incredibly clean. Congrats on finding such a gem!

Thanks guys!

Well yesterday I decided to try my modern tunes while not making anything look obvious project.

SparkOmatic 8 track to cassette adapter, with a bluetooth enabled cassette.

Glad to say it works great! Can play music from my phone and it has a microphone for hands free calling too! Very happy with it.

Also got these oil cans for free yesterday so that was neat.

Suckers to the side, I know you hate my Ninety-Eight!

With such low mileage, that Q-jet will probably work great with some ethanon-compatible gaskets and seals and an accelerator pump cup.

In reply to Georges1991 :

A bluetooth to 8-track adapter stack. I've never been more impressed.
