Ive used that same header a few times. Egr bung is clocjed wrong, and it may take some heat to make it not hit tge oil pan.

Every part will be questionable as I ordered everything from eBay.

Since Mr. Stamps said he’d get me a set of wheels if the RX7 is done by 2019. Did a little work to the van today. Started on the suspension on the protege5, tomorrow will be a big day for progress as I won’t do more than an hour of actual work.

Found the engine

Might be easier to cut the body away from the engine.

Look at all those shiny new power steering lines that were a pain in my ass to install

In reply to Stampie :

Cutting is easier on this van. I can’t even take the hood off because the hinges are rusted in place.

Removed the front suspension this morning. Questioning whether or not to continue. This is how it’s rusted where the subframe connects to the unibody.

Other than that that everything is ready to go. Luckily nothing other than the header is car specific.

Hit the engine with a hammer.  Sweep the flakes of van up off the floor from around the engine. Put in trash can.

This is the protege5, the van is basically rust free in comparison.

I could change the theme I was going with and we can call it the cRUSTacean

We always say the Challenge car just has to make it 10 miles. I checked the Q45 last night and we’ve put 72 miles on it since we bought it from you.

The plan was to drive it to the event.

Extensive parking lot testing will take place once the suspension is on. If I don’t lose a side of the car I think I’ll be good to go.

It is a collectors car so I understand why you would want to keep the miles low.

I moved some tools tools closer to the Q, need to stay focused on one of them to finish in time.

Now that we are autocross only do you think I can fit the 295/315 Hoosiers on from the Q45 and use that eBay wing I purchased a few months back.

Looks like i me I can put the nitrous kit back in the closet.

I was going to run 200 to tire for the autocross. Maybe I’ll go buy the 15x8 Jeep wheels I need for the RX7 and get a set of Hoosiers to swap over.

I'm more of a lurker than a poster at this point (since my car skills aren't anything to brag about), but I've got to chime in on this one.  I bought a similar P5 a few years ago for a grand (same color even), seemed a hair rusty but was one owner with a newer motor.  Figured a few cheap parts and I'd have an awesome manual winter beater wagon. Ha, sure. Everything I touched fought me in ways I'd never imagined, with small projects like "brakes" and "chinese eBay suspension" turning into calipers, control arms, ball joints, hubs, end links, a front knuckle, and a cornucopia of other non-suspension related fixes.  Long story short I more than doubled my investment into the pile before starting rust repair and discovering that most of the body and rear suspension mounts—which appeared scaly but serviceable—flaked away in exactly the same way yours has.

I put it on craigslist for $500 which became both toilets in my 2-bathroom renovation.

This will probably be this cars last chance.

In in other news I bought a new set of wheels for autocross tires since we are just doing autocross. That and I needed these for the RX7 and also now Stampie doesn’t need to find me a set. At $15 each I didn’t get quite as good of a deal.

Should I replace these or just be cheap??? This isn’t helping me finish this simple build.

Also thinking of getting a set of KYB struts for $85 after rebate.

The tin worm has been VERY had on that car. Is it even safe?

And yes, you should replace those unless you're going to just abandon this car as others (including me) suggest.
