Thanks! I even utilized an existing hole in the body for the tab. I just need a push fastener and it really looks legit.

I can't wait to see your much better thought out version. Perhaps I should have waited and not needed to make four versions before I was happy?

In reply to Dusterbd13 :

Once I confirm that this works on the other side too I can send you a tracing. I don't know how much variation there is between the NA and the NB but maybe it will give you a starting point?

Thanks for the offer!

We will have to see about that... My situation is a bit complicated by the fact that it will be front and center. I WANT to tie things into the wheel-tub, but have not found a way that sits well with me. The easy button is much like what you did and cover it with vinyl to match the wheel-tub.  Thing is the juxtaposition of triangle and arch grates on me somehow.

I would go from the top of the arch to the seatbelt tower and use the newly created space to put in a speaker. In fact, now I want to go measure the panel that I put in and figure out what size speaker I can put there, round out the sound in the car a bit.

Actually...I just had a vision. Partly your fault. If I use my imagination, I see a snail that could be defined out of the wheel tub and seatbelt structure.

You started the Gastropod Class, I am building the S-Car-Go for the event and now I am seeing snails in the back of the Molvo. What next? Snails under the hood?

I need help.

Or garlic butter.

I sent Nick money and he sent me a Flyin' Miata shock tower brace. Nick is awesome. He also threw in some of the oddest candy I've ever see, but it's fantastic.

Of course it can't just be a case of Nick is awesome and now the car is stiffer, it has to be weird. What's weird is that the box was delivered sneakily after dark, dropped off at my gate, and I didn't notice. Some time during the night the local stray dogs decided that they wanted to have a look see inside the box, dragged it out to the end of the driveway, and dismantled the box. I assume they wanted the candy but lacking opposable thumbs were thwarted and instead just took the baggie of hardware that Nick put in the box. Why do the neighborhood dogs want M8x1.25 bolts? I'm not sure, but I'm worried that it has something to do with my missing extension cord and the pair of pants that I saw one of the dogs steal from a neighboring yard two days ago. Perhaps they're building a humanoid robot? Hard to say. I did run out and grab the hardware needed today and I installed the bar. Anyone know the trick to get the cruise control can/cable and the bar to play nice?

For that matter, anyone know what the procedure is for troubleshooting cruise? It worked on the drive down but isn't working now.

I ran the cable for the cruise actuator through the cutouts in the base for the bar. Detached the cable from the actuator, fished it through and then hooked it back up. What does your cruise control do or not do exactly? Mine started acting up where after a while it would kick itself off and you would have to cycle it, then it would run for a shorter interval, kick off and so on and so forth. Then it got so that if you pressed the main power switch, the light on the switch lit up but as soon as you let it go the light went out. Sounded like maybe a switch with weak contacts and put it in and that didn't fix it, ended up replacing the module and that was the magic fix.

It does. I suspected that it would work like that but I wanted to ask before I started disassembling things.

The cruise was always a bit grumpy coming on. The light is very dim ( don't know if that matters) and all the way down it didn't want to come on unless you rocked the switch on the stalk a couple of times. Then one day it just stopped coming on when rocking the stalk switch. The light still comes on, I'm just not sure where to start troubleshooting.

TURKEY JOINTS!

My parents are from Rome (NY, not Italy) and I grew up devouring those things. So good. Also not something I would have expected to show up on GRM.

I'm from Rome, NY and was trying to think of something local to send. Definitely one of the stranger types of candy out there. "Hey, let's make candied chocolate and hazelnuts that looks like a turkey bone!" They make peanut butter ones now that are amazing, but I wasn't sure on peanut allergies, so played it safe with the original

The master power switch (on dashboard) does not have very bright illumination. If that powers up, you have good power to the system and likely the module is operating fine. Sounds more like the stalk switch. Not certain though. Any time I try to find diagnostics, I mostly get "I removed it because racecar and weight savings". Although that means you can scoop up a lot of the parts for cheap from people who removed it, and then swap parts out to try and fix it.

I think I figured it out. Brake switch works. Clutch switch works. Scratched my head and googled and found out that there are two clutch switches, one to show that it's fully engaged for starting (which I could tell worked) and one to say that you've started to push it to cut the cruise. I crawled under the dash and sure enough the plastic button for that switch was missing. I put a speed clip over the metal tab and now it engages. I'll bolt the hard top down tomorrow and see if that did it.

Not a cruise specialist - but dimmer and dimmer before failure has me thinking of corrosion on contacts or the grounds. The ground by the brake booster on the NA Miata is badly prone to corrosion, I'd be tempted to start by cleaning that up just on general principles.

Edit - or make sure all the required switchgear is in place :)

I was looking at that ground today while installing the bar and considered the fact that I probably need to chase all the grounds on the car at some point. It's pretty gross.

Edit: using the ever popular 10 minutes of time 10 minutes of work thought process, I went out, bolted on the hardtop with enough bolts, and confirmed that the cruise is back! Also, that bar actually does something, doesn't it? I can't feel it on the road, but driving down my lumpy driveway is different, in a good way.

This is the company that makes them. The only company. Its a tiny little family-owned candy shop hidden away in a residential area in town.

More than occasionally I've been asked if I need anything when I'm wandering around Home Depot. I'm just looking. Never know what I'll find. Yesterday I found 4x8 sheets of this stuff which hadn't been there before. $19.99.

It cuts with scissors and is maybe a little less stiff than ideal. Easy to work with and cheap makes up for a lot. I made the piece for the passenger side tower.

Then more cardboard. Always more cardboard.

I still have a few things to touch up. I need to come up with a different way to attach the back piece to the towers. Things aren't stiff enough for the tab/slot idea. I think I have another way sorted in my head but I need to pull it all back apart and make a few more tower pieces to confirm. For a first go round, I'm happy. I think it's going to look nice once it's covered.

Mrs. Deuce was home today and was working on a quilt while I was playing around. Turns out it's a LOT easier to do the on/off hardtop dance with two people.

You need a pair of garage bicycle hoists hung up where you can get to them easily, like under the lean-to beside the grosh. That should make the hardtop removal a piece of cake.

Check for those next time you are wandering around the hardware store...

We use Polywall underneath the bunny cage(which is a giant chicken coop in our dining room, for those who haven’t had the pleasure to meet Pepper). The stuff is ~$12 for a 4x8 sheet, so when it gets too stained to easily clean, we just go buy another one. It’s pretty awesome stuff for the price.

I think it was Lowe’s, though it could have been HD. I may not be accurate on the price, but I know when we went to pick up another sheet back in Aug/Sept I was thinking it would be a bit more than $20, and was pleasantly surprised that it was much less.

Continuing on my quest to spend dumb amounts of time on part of the interior that I can't even see when I'm driving just because it bothers me. I think I made two cardboard templates and 5 different plastic ones before I got one just the way I wanted it to use as a template. Then I needed to make two more off that template so I could save the template to make more in the future. I got the back piece right on the third time and I have a template saved aside for that too.

Found a spray can of adhesive. I like this stuff.

I think I'm happy with how everything fits. I might need to adjust a thing or two on the template.

Then out comes the paper for yet another pattern. So many patterns.

And next a piece of vinyl matting that I'm using to see if it will slow down the noise. Still needs a bit of trimming, but the day is over. It will get covered with the same carpet. The carpet isn't what I want to use long term, but it's good practice and I have it already.
