Hello guys

Just signed up out of curiosity to try and find a solution to my problem.

I'm carrying out a project and am trying to find out about heated windscreens.

I would ideally need to use a copolyester plastic that would be able to sustain a small heat but cannot find out about it anywhere.

The other option is to use glass and do it the conventional way.

Does anyone have any information on the possibility of making a heated plastic windscreen or am I being stupid?

Look to aviation for some info on this. Aircraft uses heated windshields for anti-fog/de-ice. On the helicopters I work on, there is an extremely thin metallic layer inbetween the glass layers. Precious metals (ie: gold) works well for this as the extremely thin layer is transparent. We used to use plastic (plexi-glass) as windshields with anti-ice but have transitioned to strickly glass now as they last longer. Plexi-glass has a tendency to craze distorting vision.

Cost is the main hinderance with this as the metallic layer can get to be costly. It does work well though. Wouldn't be used on aircraft if it didn't. Cheaper - more cost effective - to use a blower.
