I had a race shop build my TR4 engine for vintage racing. I really wanted to build it, but just too many competing priorities. I'm shooting for a mid-pack build since front runner engines in TR4s are about 5 challenge car expensive and generally won't last a full season. Decked the head - should be around 11.5:1, big valves/better springs, forged 89mm pistons, reworked rods, tweaked crank. It should hold together if I keep it around 6500 rpms and under.

Biggest projects left are building the cage, the fuel system and suspension (still have some bodywork - but it's 95% complete (over 70 patches/fixes) and a zillion details. With good weather and a bit of luck it might make it this season. I suspect the cage will be the hardest part. To do it the way I want I'll need to pull the body off and rework the body mounts to integrate the cage mounting points - then again, it should make it easier to work over the suspension. Realistically, more like the end of the season and good to go for 2014 by which time I'll be tired of looking at it and want something else.

Probably could have run higher than mid pack if you wouldn't have added all that weight back in, lol. I love these so I will be watching this.

At least you are working on something, of which I haven't been for way too long.

I will live vicariously through you and other builders for the time being

I refuse to work on my MINI, and it's technically not even British. I don't blame you in the least.

I think tackling rust on a Triumph leaves you in no danger of having to turn in your card. Beaut' of a car.
