Time for some long overdue maintenance on the Supermower...
Fortunately, changing the oil is pretty easy on the 500cc Kawasaki V-Twin.
Unfortunately, cleaning the mower deck and changing the blades is one of my least favorite biannual chores. It's a simple system, but the deck is really heavy and the mower has hydrostatic drive so it doesn't roll very easily when it's not running.
I refuse to take the easy way out and just swap blades without scraping down the bottom of the deck first. Note that the big triangular protrusion to the left of the center blade isn't part of the deck. It's a mass of decaying grass.
It was starting to grow fur.
As a bonus, I am allergic to both grasses and mold.
Much better.
I forgot to get a photo of the nice sharp blades. Use your imagination.
Reinstalling the deck is a little tricky. The front mounting pins are fixed upright, but the rear pins use heim joints and keep flopping down when you try to line everything up. Then you have to back up, reset them and try again. It helps to have two people for this, but that rarely seems to happen.
Fortunately, there is a handy diagram to help with the belt routing.
Clean, sharp and all buttoned up. It will be filthy again by Tuesday.
