Did 20 mins of clover leaf freeway exits. Quite happy with this. 

So went to pick up my bearings from part store...... ordered a full bearings set, they gave me a single set of rod bearings..... woooo. Back to rockauto I go  

Got my bolt to bolt intake manifold on, so got that done, along with oil drain back on.

Did some cussing and fighting with 02 sensor but it came. 

and the official tool of any northern car. There ain't a single hole in this car that hadn't been chased with a tap.

Currently on a kitten break

On the wait for bearings and bottom end can start going back together. 

Scored some +40s so rebuilding and cleaning these instead.

Cleaning time

What are you using in the cleaner?  I just used isopropyl alcohol in the past for some TBI injectors, but figure there has to be something better.

Same, it took all the yellowish gunk and black goo off of them.

Mask, gloves, stonks, and plague doctor. 

Mine go back in once another set of strainers arrive. 

That time of year. Summer tires, oil change, greased, clean air filter. 

No fun stuff today. More moving stuff. 

Head is ready to drop on.

Pistons cleaned up and ready for rings when mains arrive. Was a pleasant surprise to find the good factory pistons in it. 

New trailer lights that are serviceable/rebuildable, new wiring and new bungie cords color coded by the children. 

Look what showed up today! 

Hood is off, you could say things are getting serious. 

Running behind, it's out, and the diagnosis is not good.

So we have a solid case of death by Fram. 

Measured rod journals, and they were egg shape and have some scoring, along with the mains. 

The pickup was full of fiber and some metal. 

Took the filter and cut it apart and guess what..... It's missing pleats. 

Will post some more damage later. 

Ol frammy boi killed the motor, this is the oil pump.

Motor is stripped, walls measured, honed, and re measured to make sure they are even and not egg shaped.

Piston to wall clearance has been measured, it's a touch on the loose side, but just gonna do it. Ain't scared ..... Rings are gapped and cleaned up, piston and rods are cleaned and ready to go in. 

Lower water neck, block, oil pan (full of fiber and goo), and valve cover all got a date with a power washer. 

E36 M3 work in progress.... Cleaning. 

Inbound to the car wash, 2.2 block, oil pan, valve cover, 1952 Kohler block and oil pan in tow. 

Old man goes "how many people are driving a swapped neon, towing a trailer with a 2.2 on a engine stand in it and a 70 year old kohler motor"

2 cans of degreaser and getting soaked, it look decent.

Color reference for future use. 

Oil pan and it's color

Everything is ready for reassembling, minus a oil pump and distributor seal. 

Block and oil pan painted

Broken bolts in distributor fixed and re tapped and cleaned 

Rods cleaned and checked bolts for stretch

ARP head studs installed and ready. 

The last part I was questioning was bad, was confirmed bad.... Oil pump. 

So pulled the pickup off, started to run parts wahser fluid backwards through it..... Fiber and some small wire wad coming out of it. Popped the top on the oil pump and this is our find.

Note the deep imprints from wire. This will come in later.

This is the oil pump body, it is destroyed. 

Pulled the "sheild" off pickup and it was packed full of filter material and when that was pulled off 10ish strands of wire where missing off the pickup screen..... I think I know where those went. 

Scored some awesome seats for magenta from a super nasty/rusty 2g that was scrap bound.
