I know what you're saying. I was just making a joke.
However, if we want to get technical, buckboards are not necessarily unsprung or even heavily sprung.
They were available with a full range of spring rates from mushy-constantly-bottoming-out-soft to practically or literally unsprung depending on their purpose.
What makes them uncomfortable, soft sprung or fixed axle, is the complete lack of dampening.
So while it does not confirm to what people typically think of when that term is used, it is technically analogous.
But again, it was just a joke.

Sorry, I thought you were referring to how stiff the suspension would be. Guess I'm not up on my wild west references ;)

I recognize that the "new" version of the car is far, FAR superior than what it was, and that it is FAR more purposeful and well thought-out.
But....
I -do- miss the hairy-chested-man-dominating-the-machine mayhem that the V12 version was. Yeah, it's way slower, but my heart beats way faster for it.
Going back and looking at videos from 2010 inspired me to put together a Supercut of videos from the cars beginning until now, take a look

New video! I figured out some rear suspension stuff, this could be a huge step forward
Wow! the shocks and those other cone spacerwhodathoughtit thingys at your watts appear to have you back in the game ...congrats. I guess changing the layout at SpeedWorld to test this improvement on Pink is kinda TOTALLY un realistic eh?
In reply to 759NRNG :
I haven't even installed the cone spacers yet. I am still waiting for Ron Sutton Race Technology to tell me what I need to change on the car. I'm supposed to get an answer this week. I will likely be moving the top link over to the right slightly and will then install the cone spacers to prevent bind. I also have some tender springs coming to take up that space between the spring and the adjusting collar. Changing the layout of Speedworld wouldn't change anything, the floor is polished concrete and the building isn't big enough for any kind of speed in a car. I will be driving the car around the track soon, though-just for fun

After the course is plowed?
I'd recommend tender springs. Generally you should only use helper springs when you don't have space for tender springs.
In reply to GameboyRMH :
I have 200 lb/in helper springs AND some tender springs coming. I'll try the helper springs first, hopefully they will compress enough to be useful
Loose, with this latest turn of events have you dropped any weight?
In reply to 759NRNG :
I was 1880 across the scales at Nationals but my scales said I was 1865 lbs ready to race. I weighed the car today and it was 1840 lbs for a loss of only 25 lbs. Then I had a chat with Del Long who convinced me that I don't need a front sway bar so I removed it and now am 1830 lbs. I'm not sure about the sway bar just yet. I got my results from Ron Sutton Race Tech today and he is recommending a rear sway bar. I don't really want to second guess the professionals, I have to at least try what they recommend.
There's an awful lot goin' on in the arse end of Pink......perhaps mount the rear sbar wear the old shocks were?
In reply to 759NRNG :
Yes, it would mount about where the old shocks and pushrods were. It will be fairly straightforward. I will talk to Ron Sutton Monday and get the lowdown on what he wants on the car

and no one will be the wiser......
I pulled a rear shock off and test fitted it on the front to see if it would work. It fits quite nicely, actually and I figured out what the motion ratio would be so I can order the correct springs. Video coming soon.
I am so impressed and optimistic about the cars performance this year, partially because of the Penske coilovers in the back that I wanted to explore the possibility of putting them in the front as well. I needed to know if they would fit, how they would mount and what spring rate I would need to keep the wheel rate I have now. Here is the video about the process:
Similar weight savings up front with the Penske's?
In reply to 759NRNG :
I don't think the Penske's saved any weight because they are so much bigger than the bike shocks. I still haven't nailed down what springs to get. I may have been compensating for my cars lack of suspension travel and running around stiffer than I need to be, so even though 750 lb/in springs would keep the car at its current stiffness, that may be too stiff.
I am switching to conventional coilovers on the front so stuff needed to be chopped out, and I need space in the back for a sway bar so some of that got cut, too.

ooh, what is that steering rack?
Loose, I'm seeing a need for a 'brace' between the front susp. hoops where the MC bits used to reside ..... sorry the pic of the 'X' you removed didn't show when I posted .....is it still in the 'store'??? My take, upper shock mounts on top of the recently reinstalled 'X' brace.......
In reply to fasted58 :
I bought the rack from some company specializing in sand buggies, but I can't remember the name. 759NRNG I am building new upper shock mounts and they will have an X brace. I don't need both braces and I may re-do the rack mount in a way that acts as a cross brace. I have to move the rack forward anyways, I may as well remake that mount in a better way.

Wuz just tryin' to save you extra fabrication gyrations, but i'm envisioning the madness your about to perform up front....STAY WARM!!!!
Well, this is a kick in the teeth. I started doing YouTube videos to entertain and maybe, just maybe I could make a few dollars so I could buy more or better parts for the car. They take a lot of extra time and I try to make them informative but I guess they aren't about a drift car or whatever and now YouTube has decided that my channel isn't popular enough to be monetized. I just got this e-mail from YouTube:
