It bolts to the oil pan, I used the one that came with the engine.

I have installed dozens of salvage engines, I have rebuilt plenty, never any issues, this is just really bad luck.

If your v8 is slow you're messing with the wrong v8

Called Erie Vo-Vo.

They're sending me a replacement engine.  I requested an upgrade to a 2.4, offering to pay the difference in price.  He comped me the difference and extended the warranty to 1 year from 90 days.

Complete opposite experience from Allied Auto Salvage's "berk off we have your money" attitude.

Fortunately, I do have a spare turbo.

I did not say slow, I said acceleration.  When I tap the throttle I want it to rev like it has a negative-mass flywheel, and come back down to idle just as quickly.  Even if a V8 revs quickly, they take forever to come back down, because of all that rotating mass.

There's a reason I like rotaries.

I will definitely buy from them again and recommend them to anybody.

Also?  I kind of had an odd feeling given that the car that the engine came out of was fairly trashed but was not obviously collision-totaled.  The S60 T5 that is donating its 2.4 was very obviously an offset frontal hit.

Acquired:  Two sets of 12A rotors that have good apex seal slots.  One has a badly munged bearing, but I can fix that.

I am hoping that the 600+mv of voltage ripple in the black RX-7 is why it likes to randomly cut out when driving, like the MSD or something is unhappy with that.

Redid the battery cables.  Replaced the negative cable entirely (it is 18" long and grounds to the passenger seat belt bolt) and replaced the positive end with a proper crimp end instead of the bolt on POS.

Ripple measured underhood is still 400mv.  Way unacceptable.

Next step is to move the MSD's power feed off of the junction point underhood.  And by "move" I would like to mean "E36 M3can".

Cannot get the engine to idle leaner than 12:1.  The exhaust is visible at idle.  This SCREAMS weak spark.

In reply to Pete. (l33t FS) :

Weak coil? An MSD would drive a coil harder than a stock system.

Bad connections have been the bane of my existence lately when it comes to rotaries. If you think its the ground a heavy gauge wire connected across several body panels / frame may help.

They sent this one with everything.

Including the turbo.

You going to do the rear-main seal on this one?  These are the guys with that policy, right?

In reply to TVR Scott (Forum Supporter) :

No reason not to, I have two new seals, and the flexplate and oil pan have to come off anyway.  This is a S60 T5 engine, which used a trans with a smaller torque converter, and an oil pan without a level sensor.  So I have to play musical oil pans and flexplates with my old S60 R engine.

Same turbo and manifold, at least.   I know the intake manifolds are technically different but I'll have to take a look, I really don't feel comfortable with the F.U. banjo bolt's threads on the R manifold I have.

Yes.  The shell is different.  It's basically as light as a Series 2 but stiffer because of some bracing they thought they needed.

Also the shifter is in the right place.

And they look 1000% better than FBs.

Wow the Blizzaks are loud.

But this engine seems like a winner...

Pretty nasty chest cold.  No COVID like symptoms, aside from "any possible symptom including none at all has been linked to COVID".

Thrashing all weekend to get the car together did not help things.  Sunday night I was constantly racked with coughing fits.
