Not that strange.
Lots of cars had rear seat hot-water heaters as early as the 1930s.
Packard was one of the first and was in bed with Studebaker by the 1950s.

I recall our family 1940 Buick having a heater core underneath the passenger side of the front bench seat. I don't recall ever riding in the Buick, but it was always parked out in the field. I always hoped to get it running, and looked forward to it qualifying for antique license plates...
That's pretty cool! I've never seen it before, I guess most of my old cars were/are too prosaic. I did see a gas fired heater under the front seat of a Land Cruiser once that looked terrifying.

I Have Had 4 53's 2 Hard top 2 coupe's 2 were V8's Commander's 2 wer I 6 Champions, I Miss my red one,And that Black and Gold Two Tone, I am Missing the Green One and realy Miss the white one that started the Whole thing, It Was A Landmark in downtown atl. in the 70's Bar Scene.
P S those Heaters turn seat Padding to Dust.

The want is strong. But the project list is way too deep already.
I've always wanted to graft the rear glass from a late 60's Barracuda onto one of these and make a fastback version.
