I had a 80 Fiesta 40 years ago (bought new) and have always wanted another, or if not a Fiesta, some other Euro Ford.  I am very tempted by this.

I had one of these as a rental back when they were new. It had a very German feel to it. The rental was even the same color, only much less faded.

I want it!

I remember reading the fiesta build in Hot Rod when I was a kid, and it has given me bad ideas about fiestas since.

Someone really should buy this car & build it for Lemons to look like the Hotrod one!

My mother actually had one years ago.  I loved driving that car.

There's a brand new YouTube video by a British guy, Salvage Flippers, and they just picked up one of these as a project.  The seller had installed a 1.6 liter engine in place of the original 1.1 liter.  Newer engine also received dual carbs.  Then the guy went to town with neon blue hoses and neon blue wire/cable shielding.  But the "crowning" touch was the large wheel well extension at each corner.

So not exactly the Hot Rod Fiesta, but it's British equivalent.

These are highly prized in the U.K. and there are quite a few possible transplants.  The Ford Zetec and Duratec engines can be fitted as well as a 5 speed transmission from a FWD Ford Escort.

I loved the old ads.  Big giant dog and 2 kids in the huge back seat.

I had a friend in college in the late 70's who had a 78 I believe she got new. Last time I saw her was at a gathering of mutual friends in MA in the early 80's. She was on her way to the Southwest, Arizona or Nevada or something. When she left, she returned a couple minutes later and asked if some of us could go help push start her car. Turned out she knew the battery was dead and had no intention of buying one for the trip. "I forgot to park on a hill."  When I saw the car I asked "What happened to your car?"  Answer "I tipped it over...... twice."   A short push & pop start and off she went!

I've owed 4 of these cars. I currently have a '79 that's going to get some work. Mine is in much better shape, almost zero rust. Or at least for a 41 year old car from the northeast. For the amount of work needed to make this car to look OK and then redo the mechanicals is not going to be cheap.

They are rare today but that doesn't make them collectable. I can't remember the last time I saw one on the street. It's funny but I see 2-3 of them at the race track running in the IT class which is where one of my Fiestas ended  up.

I assume this one did not come from the factory with ac?

I can't answer that, but I kinda wonder if the engine would have enough power to run an a/c compressor & still propel the car?

My friend would joke if you had the early years VW Rabbit and your brakes went out while driving just turn on the air conditioning and it will automatically slow down.

Front wheel drive with equal length axles, no torque steer in a straight line. Precious little torque too. These were great cars though. Ford's first transverse engine.

I think ac was an option, but like said, use ilo brakes!

Aeromoto & I we're discussing how cool a Lotus Twin Cam would be under the hood, if they weren't so damn expensive now.

I know someone who did that back when they weren't so pricey. It was a really tight squeeze! Very compromised intake manifold too.

None of the Fiesta's imported back then came with AC. Some cars did get an AC unit installed by the dealer, mostly in hot weather areas of the US. I did see one install and it was a "Cluster F###" but since each dealer did the install you won't find any that are same car-to-car.

At 67 HP, power was OK since the cars only weighted around 1800 lbs.

But  with AC and you're going to feel the loss of power when it's on.

The beauty of the Kent engine is that there were plenty of engine parts available to hop it up.  And still are!

A better cam, better intake & carb,  a header, and a ported head  (An aluminum one is available.) and deleting the emissions crap would get you 100 HP!

Doesn't sound like much but that's a near 50% increase in HP over stock!

I prefer the models that came with the sunroof as it was possible to lift the back part up and get a good flow of air though the cars cabin.
