So a family friend passed away and left my dad as a trustee to his estate. He has a few cars that need to be sold and one is his P1800ES (Wagon).

Its a running/driving car. It’s in immaculate shape, probably the original paint.

My dad is not having an easy time trying to find the values of these cars. Does anyone have a place to get an idea of value on these?

Where is it located?  There are few 1800 specialists in various parts of the country.  One of the best is in SoCal near LA (irollmotors.com). Values can be all over the place.  Truly original can command good prices.   The majority of these cars were sold in the US, so they are rare in Europe and can sell for higher prices if you are willing to help a buyer with shipping.  While a few have sold of very high prices ($40K to even $80K), most seem to sell for around $20K or less.

(my knowledge is based on owning one since 2005 and spending a lot of time working on the one my ex- has owned since 2004).

Go here for the results of all the P1800s sold on BAT.

There were only ever 8000 wagons built and they are acknowledged to be a classic style. Two wagons that I know of have sold for $90k+  https://www.media.volvocars.com/global/en-gb/media/pressreleases/147678/pristine-volvo-p1800es-sells-for-record-price-at-bonhams-auction

If you were really looking for strong $$$ then I would go all out on pushing the condition and  originality of the car and go looking for European buyers.  This path will require time and $$$ to execute for car prep and advertising venue.

If it is really more of a driver, then it will all depend on the whims of the buyers.  I BAT ( Bring A Trailer) over E-bay.

Ian should be along shortly and I defer to him as the resident guru on this model of Volvo.

In reply to NOHOME :

This 1800ES went unsold on BaT recently: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1972-volvo-p1800es/

Possibly held back by the color (white ESs don't seem to sell well) and possibly due to some unknowns regarding rust and mechanical condition. Given these unknowns, I'd say the final bid was generous.  It looks like 36 have been listed on Bring a Trailer, with mixed results.

The difficulty with putting a value on these cars is they can hide their sins well in pictures so accurately assessing one requires an in-person inspection by someone who knows what to look for.

The car is located in NW Indiana. It’s been garage kept as long as I have known it and it’s in pretty good shape. Unfortunately it is white.

Throw it on BAT and let it ride.

That would be my recommendation as well. Especially if the estate just needs to liquidate the car and can sell it with no reserve. Post a TON of pictures.  Get it on a lift and take pictures of the chassis and of the common rust areas. A video or two of the car running and driving helps. Make sure someone is available to answer questions promptly.  Those seem to be the auctions that get the best results.

Ok, I’ll mention it to my dad and see what he wants to do. I know placing an auction on BaT is not cheap, so that’s up to my dad if he wants to go that route.

You'll need to log in to post.
