We decided early on that while we wanted to keep the vintage look and feel of our project ramp truck, we also wanted it to be completely kitted out for race and rally support work.

That would require additional storage area for a 10x10” tent frame or two, and a tire and fuel jug rack.

We also wanted to incorporate a shield of sorts to protect whatever car we were carrying from getting damaged.

We designed a light, strong, relatively easy to build tire rack from one inch square tubing. We would triangulate corners as best we could and then weld a lightweight steel sheet to the front and sides of this rack. We would also need to incorporate a generator and air compressor and still leave room for a winch underneath the tire rack.

This truck, which had looked so large when we started, was beginning to look very small, as we kept measuring and adding equipment that we just had to have on board.

Thanks! We are real happy with the way this one is coming out. It has proven to be very practical and even pretty comfortable. Best yet, we have less than 10K invested.
