So I just got a new version of firefox and for whatever reason, none of my add ons followed, theyre just...gone! So I went to search for the craigslist add on created by a forum goer here, and when using the search field on the GRM website, I get the fiery celica of doom. What gives? Does anyone have the link?

I'm having that problem with Chrome, too. You can search GRM with google, though. Most of it is indexed. Just add "site:grassrootsmotorsports.com" without the quotes to the search.

I haven't got the link either but it appears that searching on GRM at least from FF 5.0.1 is broken for me, too.

other way with google is to hit "advanced search" type grassrootsmotorsports into the domain box

I use it for a lot of places these days... seems to work better then the forum based searches.

I know it has always been a low priority. But can we pretty please, with sugar on top, and a big fat cherry, have a search engine that works? If you don't want to bother can you at least make a Google site search available on the forum pages?

    Thanks!

It's actually a high priority. Which is why we are paying a nice web design firm to build a whole new site. Unfortunately, there's no quick fix on this one--the search function is built into the base code, and tied to a Yahoo search utility that no longer works the same way. (At least, that's the Little Golden Books version of what's actually a very involved and not-pretty story.)

We're looking into some workarounds, but it doesn't look good and we don't want to slow the progress on the new site to do a half-assed fix on this one that may or may not work.

Be patient, grasshoppers. In the meantime, I've stickied the couple of excellent suggestions from this thread on the main site.

    ^^ What she said. ^^

Yahoo has deprecated the search function the site was built with, so we're working on another solution. I'm working with a developer who's familiar with our platform and he says he should be able to find a short-term solution while we're cooking up the new site, but we can't get him on board until early next week.

In the meantime, adding the words "site:grassrootsmotorsports.com" to your search terms in google is a pretty darn good stopgap measure (I think works better than our site search did in the first place) BUT...I look forward to having a better solution.

"site:grassrootsmotorsports.com" worked well for me to find the craigslist add on, and a few others...easy peasy

That totally sucks yahoo dropped their search service.

Tom, have your guy look at django-filters. It's not site-wide (forums only, or articles only, or whatever), but it's easy and effective.

For a more robust solution I'd suggest haystack, which I think is installed. I know I was playing with it at one point.

If there are no copyright issues, can we get the picture of the burning Miata from the London Riots in for the picture of the Burning Celica?
