Ok, this is a weird one...

I've got my '07 Accent disassembled for a front-end rebuild(which seems surprising at 90kmi), and noticed there is an ABS sensor/cable/trigger-wheel on the right-front, but not the left-front. Is this normal?

I see nothing on the VIN or door jamb indicating it has ABS, and I've never had it engage. I need to order new axles though, and I'm not sure which to get!

Yes, that is the "output speed sensor" for the ECU. Unplug it and you will not be able to rev past 4500rpms and the speedo will not work.

Axles? On an 07? Why? I didn't havea boot rip on my 02 until last spring. The Accent still has it's original axles at almost 200k miles and 11 years. What are you "rebuilding"?

yea... my old 1999 Hyundai Tiburon was still on it's original suspension at 140,000 miles when it met an untimely demise

So by "yes" does that mean "no ABS"???

Long story on my car: Bought it a year ago(cheap) with 54kmi and little signs of much maintenance. Both front wheel bearings seemed a bit noisy so I ordered replacements, then did what I do best - procrastinate. I checked them at each oil change, but never felt any problems until a couple weeks ago, when I felt about 1/4" of movement in the right bearing. I needed new shocks/struts anyway, so I ordered those & waited.

In the mean time, the sewer on my house plugged up due to roots & I spent my whole weekend dealing with that. I don't have much time anyway(full-time job with 100mi daily commute, plus my own side-business in the evenings & weekends), and I know a guy/friend(sort of) who's a mechanic that owes me some $$$ so I just took the car to him.

I wasn't too surprised when he found the swaybar end links, outer tie rod ends, front rotor/pads, and balljoints were shot, since I basically drive this thing like a rally car. But unfortunately the heat from ~45kmi of driving on the noisy bearings has seized the axle shafts inside the hubs, to the point we bent the I-beams on his 12-ton press trying to get them out.

So now, in addition to struts/shocks, outer tie rod ends, balljoints, and end links; I also need new hubs, axles and probably upright/knuckles since there's no way to get in there and cut off the CV shaft so I can press the hub out the opposite direction. So I'm dropping almost a grand in parts into this thing I only paid $4700 for. Oh yeah, and I need new tires for winter too.

I sure hope the rest of the car holds together longer!

I hate to say it... but your buddy is scamming you. Hardcore. I've beat the E36 M3 out of both of mine and am still on the original ball joints, and I have had to replace one tie rod end in 335k miles.

But, with that said, if you are going aftermarket axles, you will have to buy a passenger side axle "with ABS" . The non-abs axle will not have the relucter ring.
