As I have posted previously, I have been looking for cheap grippy tires for my 85 RX7. I have located a set of Formula Mazda 13 inch rains. However they are 226mm wide and I have the factory Mazda wheels which I believe are 5.5 inches wide.

Normally I wouldn't attempt to squeeze that wide of a tire on that narrow of a wheel, but these wheels are brand new for $55 each shipped. Should I go for it?

I have run 215/50's on a 13x5.5" rim. There is a lot of bulge and I suspect it won't be the best for handling.

keep in mind that the side wall strength of a formula car tires won't be the same as a tire designed for something that weights as much as a Miata...

last yr at Mid-Ohio I was going to bring home a free set of FF tires and the Hoosier guys talked me out of it... and my CRX only weights 2050 #, they warned me that the tire could / would fail at a most inopportune moment causing me all kinds of grief

I know of Toyota Starlets running this tire without issues. I don't think my 2200 lb RX7 is much heavier.

The tires are Yokohama Advan Y803Ds

I probably wouldnt try it without wider wheels.
