The sharp edge of a fishmouthed piece of dom tubing fell out of the clamp and stabbed right into the bone of my eye socket. It pushed the safety glasses right out of the way. It HURT LIKE HELL but... I could have been blind in one eye so I'm not complaining.
Methinks I am a "full face shield" sorta guy from now on.
I'm glad that wasn't worse. A lot.
I've had a not-nearly-that-severe eye protection reminder recently, and it's on my mind.
I haven't had a ton of safety near-misses in general, but the ones I've had still make me cringe years later.
Safety first, for serious.

Flying heavy parts definitely call for good eye protection. Glad it wasn't worse. You would have lost half of your porn watching capabilities.
Things like this make me cringe. A lot. I'm a pilot by trade, and do all sorts of E36 M3 that set up this kind of damage. Can't afford that kind of near miss.
Looks like it hurt like a sonofabitch, but glad to hear your peepers are still 4.0.
Yipes - close one. Glad you're ok. I went full face shield after the last bit of swarf had to get pulled out.

I am an advocate for safety eyewear and face shields.
I usually wear safety glasses and one day I just didn't out of laziness. The set of sidecuts I was using broke and the blade shot me in the eye right when I was blinking. It bruised my eye, but if I hadn't blinked, I could have permenantly damaged my eye.

I wish I had perfect vision, but glasses serve a purpose besides being able to see...

I was wearing decent impact safety glasses. A 6lb piece of DOM tubing got by 2oz of plastic held in place by ears and a nose like Deacon Jones got thru an offensive line. It seems like the only purpose they served was to point out that a full face shield is required.

Or posibly deflect it just enough so you still have your eye.

It fell from above me and at an angle. What saved the eye was my skull - which is feeling rather unpleasant today. That little slice in the skin was the size of the sharp end of the pipe - it stuck right in until it hit bone. I squealed like a child for about a full minute.
I should probably have it looked at by someone after work or at least get a tetnus shot or something but ... it seems to have closed up pretty well. I'll give it another day or two.
I agree with a full face sheild or goggles. The last time I got something stuck in my eye.. it hit me in the cheek and bounced up and in
I had to go to the doctor to get a sliver of steel picked out of my eye just a week ago. I was using a cutting disc on my 4.5 inch grinder to cut some tubing and had my regular eyeglasses and a full face shield on.The piece must have bounced off of something nearby and come if from the side. There's no such thing as too much safety gear.
Goggles are about your only bet against flying debris.
4 1/2" angle grinder is the devil's tool. No other tool I have ever used has hurt me so many ways. Got the scars to prove it.

I wrecked my car a few years back. Had a cut like that above and below my eye. I thought I had some eye damage because my vision was blurry, but whatever cut me also removed my contact. I got lucky.
Yes, angle grinders are the devil's tool. I dropped a 7" grinder on my thigh once... while it was spinning. The sanding disc wasn't rated for flesh, but it did a pretty good job.
