I'm looking at getting some Sumitomo HTR-200 for my X1/9. Is 185 to wide for a 5" wheel?

    I ran a 205/60/13 on a 5 1/5.. so that should fit perfectly

We put 205/60-13's on the Cosworth's 13x6 wheels, so 185/60-13 should work perfectly on 13x5's.

We used to regularly put 205/60's on 4 1/2" Beetle wheels. We bought them used for $20 from some old guy and had to flip them around when the wore too badly on the inside. The guy would sell them to us, then cuss about getting them onto the rim.

    Lowered swingaxle tuck

I used to put that size on 5 inch wide 70's era Civic wheels.

Not at all. I run the exact tire on 5" rims on my X1/9.

That's perfect for a street tire. if it was an R-compound, I'd say stuff a 225/45R13 on that sucker.

If you check out the specs on the tire at TireRack, they list the rim width range: TireRack Tire Specs

If the link doesn't work, look for your size on their site and click on the tire you're interested in, near the top will be "specs" which you can click on and view more specs on the tire.
