A very nice example of the "Japanese Mustang" is up for sale in CT:

This is one of those cars I'm sorely tempted by but can't justify (no garage, can only afford unheated storage over the winter). Maybe someone else here can save it? Also, what sort of power options/engine swaps are available for these cars? Just curious.

There's an older thread on here somewhere with one of those painted white, and outfitted with an S2000 engine.

    Nicest Celica I ever saw...

Looks good, pity it's an autotragic. One of my favourite Japanese cars...

Nice looking car, for the year, but I also thing "...pity about the autotragic".

If I bought an "older" Celica, it would be the 2nd gen. even tho the styling is kind of generic European. 1st gen? the hardtop coupe is my fav.

I was this close [ ] to buying a yellow one with a black interior in 1977.

It's on my list of regrets including a '64 Galaxie convertible and a Wiccum girl in Missouri with wavy butt length black hair.

    Meh, live and learn.

Had one, 5 speed. Best looking car I've ever owned, but ended up selling it because the 20R was just such a HORRID motor for that chassis. If I could've swapped in a 3S-GE, I'd still have it.

Better go back and get it. You can swap in a 3sge.

Yeah nice interior too. Too bad it has a slushbox...

You can. Most of the guys on this board probably can. I can't. I've something like 4 failed motorswaps under my belt. Something always just goes wrong, never completes, etc, etc.

Oh... i was hoping you were better than me. It's something that i MIGHT be able to do, but i'd need a nice big garage, and a lot more tools than i have right now.

Some fab skills might be nice, too.

I'm stretching my skills pretty far with the KLZE Escort and the 3sgte 5th gen Celica that are in the works.

Because those are 3rd gen GT cars. Not as cool, not as good condition, and not as fun.

The 3rd gen GTS is cool. The GT, meh.

Had a 77 fastback for many years. Great highway car and fun to drive although tragically underpowered. I always wanted to drop a 289/302 in mine but got rid of it thinking I could always find another less rusty one... The lip around the rear hatch was impossible to keep rust free.
