So, solution? It certainly isn't "normal" that the car won't pull within 500-750rpm of redline.

Have you checked fuel pressure and most important VOLUME.

Pressure seems fine. If anything, the car is running quite rich. Plugs build up carbon rather fast. Unsure whether this is an "MR2" thing or whether the car is just dumping fuel when I run into this issue.

Find an empty high - uh, race track and get up to top speed. You should have the gas floored and be near the redline in top gear.

Then park and hold the engine at the redline for a while.

If it cuts out at top speed and not when revving in neutral, it's probably a fuel problem. If it's the same it could be an ignition issue - do you know if the coil is still good?

In a 5sfe powered car, this could take a couple months. Make sure you start with a full gas tank.

It does run into the issue in neutral, btw.

I don't understand how the coil could be bad, yet the car run 100% the rest of the time.

Maybe the distributor is going bad or the tps needs to be dialed in. Those are the only things that I can think of that would keep you from high rev. Here is a schematic of when I did mine on my 5efe. Hope this helps ....

Have you checked the resistance on the injectors?
