2002 Protege front brakes. Any Tips?

Going to do the front brakes on the 2002 protege tomorrow. Any tips that I should be armed with? I have done the brakes on the Miata and the MG a few times.

Any similarity to the Miata? Anything to screw-up if I am not aware? Pete

They seemed very similar to the miata brakes (really very easy). Just make sure to lube the slider pin. Oh, and don't lose the stupid little metal spring

Oh, and some of the pads may have the shims riveted onto the back, so you won't be able to take them off, and you won't be able to drive to the parts store because your car is on stands, so your brakes will clunk, and every single person will ask you why your car is clunking.

(Can you guess what happened the last time i did them?)

no tips on fixin' 'em, but they work pretty damn well. i am a big fan of mazda brakes.

Those should be similar to the escorts... If they are, grease the daylights out of them. Also, the escort brakes are quite different from miata brakes. You should be fine, and get a hardware kit, which replaces the rubber bits. Those always seem to have gone bad.

Thanks guys. Sun should be up in an hour and well see how much fun this is! Sounds pretty routine for front disc.

They were a piece of cake to do. Its a two hour job for a first timer. Brakes work great.
