I think most people grab the engine and tranny from a V6 Camaro/Firebird. People practically give away F-body V6s.

Rear axles out of POSTAL JEEPS fit well. You need one that measures 44.5 inches backing plate to backing plate. Make sure you dont get an AMC rear. You want the DANA that does not have the big nut on the axle at the drum. The AMC units were 2 piece axles. Nick

    Update:

I bought a running 89 Mustang with a 5.0 and 5 speed for $600 that is going to donate its drivetrain to the B. This brings me to my first couple challenge budget questions:

Hypothetically if I use the parts from the Mustang that I need and sell the rest for $500 does that make my cost for the parts I used $100?

Second question unrelated to the first. I am planning on taking out all windows and the windshield and just use brooklands racing screens or similar. Is this legal?

You can recoup up to the purchase price of a car or parts car but it can't become better than free, i.e. if you buy the car for $600 and sell $700 worth of parts you can only recoup the $600. Your maximum recoupment for everything is capped at $1004.50 this year (half of $2009.00).

Dunno about the Brooklands screen legality, but it sounds pretty cool!

If you meet NHRA & SCCA Safety, why not? A cage and full face helmet may be in order.

I want to bring down the revs on my highway-cruising mgb. Do you have any more info on the S10 or the postal Jeep rear axles?

Hammer, you need an MG overdrive unit. Had one on my last B, and I'll never have another B without one.

72 mgb - '87 5.0, t-5 and ford 8" rear. Is there an exhibition class? - It's gonna be close. Would hate to blow the budget and have to leave it home. I need cheap wheels from an eclipse (need the offset).

rear out of a toyota p/u could work - s-10s work - ford 8" from granada, maverick, comets...exploder 8.8" will work - lots have limited slip and discs - stock mg rear is a 3.9:1

O/D is probably the best answer. Anybody have one, cheap?

lotsa FWD rims will bolt on. probably 7" width and 40mm offset.

on my ford probe, for example, i have used rims from eclipse and 5-lug 240sx. eclipse pilot hole is bigger than probe, and 240sx is smaller.

Check if it's the same bolt pattern as the gm 3.4 - otherwise d&d fabrication - but it's a budget buster.
