The thought came to me this morning that we don't see a lot of talk of 2nd Gens on the board. Is that because the nice ones are simply too expensive, or that the "cheap" ones are too scarce/cost too much to get comparable performance of a later model (e.g. C4)?
From a styling perspective they're pretty neat, but my impression is that the 2nd Gen is preferable to the 3rd Gen as being less cramped and more fun to drive.
Any Corvette gurus out there want to chime in?

The C2 Vettes (63-67) are certainly some of the most attractive Corvettes but the prices are sky high compared to later cars.
Yeah, I'd guess it's the pricetag.
I'd say at this point they're more Classic Motorsports than Grassroots Motorsports. I'm not sure there are any cheap examples out there at all now other than parts cars.
I sold my 67 Big Block Coupe I owned for 17 years to buy my 2002 ZO6. No regrets at all. But they are a high dollar car with most being Sunday drivers or trailer queens. There are a few in historic racing.
They drive pretty nice, actually, and handle much better than you'd be lead to believe. My parents have a 67 350 HP 327 with a Muncie and my buddy has a 71 with a built 350 and a stick. I've also driven a 77, 79 and a 94. Driving them both (C3 and C2), I'd have to say I prefer the layout of the C2 to the C3, it's got a nice seating position and an open and more normal cabin. They are both fun, the C3 just tries to be more 'jet fighter' like in the inside. The C3 convert my bud has is also incredibly flexible. Once on jack stands, the doors cannot be opened - stick to a hardtop.
As mentioned above the C2 Corvettes are too expensive to use in the challenge. C3 and C4s can be bought cheap if they are abused or have been totaled with no titles. Here in Florida you can find C4s for $1000.00 dollars or less. Our team just bought two running complete cars, one with title and one without, for $1000.00 each. There was one, complete car, advertised in the GRM for sale column that the guy was basically offering for free for someone to enter it in the challenge. We bought an 89 for two hundred dollars with no engine or transmission but it had a complete intact body and dana 44 rear end. There was an 85 C4 complete car, no title, for $500.00 on Craiglist about a month ago.
As you can see, there are C4s around cheap. You just have to look for them.
