I am in love with the idea of using this engine in a locost somewhere down the road.

I am NOT in love with coming up with a solution for CANBUS.

Basically saying that I am sitting in the wings watching for someone to tell me that my current dream build is possible at a reasonable price and effort.

Go find out and report back.

I don't know, and even if I did, I can't tell you.

So we can't count on a "stay posted and I can tell you how to do it"?

I'd think that would be in Ford's best interest. It could generate a lot of proFord buzz in the aftermarket world.

Can you tell us if there's talk that this might become a crate engine?

If you'll send me one of you guys used up mules I'll be happy to take the time and even write a book to tell others how to do it.

You know, you're a major buzz kill today!

When is the Fiesta ST due here in America?

Wait a second. Ford has been pushing this motor as a replacement in formula ford.

If that's the case then it definitely will get easier to swap at some point

This year as 2014 MY cars. I suspect sometime June- Aug will be the intro. Both have been fully introduced as real cars.

So the first junkyard cars should hit in time for Christmas gifts to myself this year.

CanBus can be manipulated. People are already spoofing the CanBus on the Priiii(sp?). They intercept the message, interpret the message, decide what they really want it to say, then sending the preferred message out the other side. I have no idea how savvy one would have to be to pull this off, but it is being done.

Looks like I'm going to have to learn a new language and as someone pointed out early on in this thread "I smell a business venture".

Edited.

I doubt we'll see it in the Focus here. The current Focus gets real-world fuel economy on par with the Fiesta already, I'm not sure that making the engine smaller will increase fuel economy any more than it already is.

It's also how keyless cars were getting stolen. CAN wasn't encrypted until recently, so you just plug a "pro theft" module into the ALDL and poof, the car powers up and unlocks the steering column...

I doubt it, I read some early reviews and they seemed pretty happy with the way the car drove. I believe there was little evidence of the turbo, other than the noise. They did point out that you can hear it reasonably well inside the car while accelerating.

I've only read one review, and they hated it.

But then, C&D isn't afraid of saying something sucks, unlike some magazines where they print nothing but glowing reviews of everything.

I was expecting something different, myself. I don't pay much attention to the Megasquirt world, so I don't know what new developments there are.

CAN just means "network", a given car has five or six or seven different CAN buses, and a PCM needs at least one of them, maybe more, to function at all. I've only seen a few swaps involving modern computers and they usually boil down to installing the entire dashboard and everything from the donor car, since the IPC is often the controller.
