Work has been progressing quickly and furiously on our Z-car lately. We're planning to show up at the Atlanta Tire Rack SCCA Match Tour in mid-May—and being competitive. There are a few steps between us and that goal, but every turn of the wrench gets us closer.

Our latest major project was the installation of our ISC suspension components. We've got zero experience with ISC's goods, so we thought the Z would be the perfect project to get to know one of our advertisers better.

Our initial impressions are all good. We especially love the threaded-body design of the shocks. The lower mounts thread onto the same threads as the spring adjusters. This allows for ride height adjustments that don't affect shock travel or preload on the spring. It's an ingenious solution, and one we're excited to play with.

Once we got everything installed, we lowered the car onto some of our new favorite tools in the garage: Flyin’ Miata's setup stands. These stands bolt directly to the hubs in place of the wheels. They also feature bearings on the bottoms so that they float over a surface and allow the suspension to move freely. The result: Your car sits on the stands under load as it would on the wheels, but you have plenty of access to everything for adjustments. There are also hard points for measuring, so camber and toe measurements are a snap.

We did a quick corner-weighting and alignment just so we knew everything was roughly where it was supposed to be. A full setup will have to wait until after some testing. We're eager to get the ISC bits out on the autocross course. We want to try out the 32-position adjustable dampers and get a proper corner-weighting done.

Slated for the June issue, but the takeaway is the bang-for-the-buck is off the charts. Are they as fast as a ProParts model Koni? No. but for a mere fraction of the cost the quality and performance are top notch. James Clay and the Bimmerworld gang are huge fans, too. That's a heck of a celebrity endorsement.

Finally project Z gets a update! This thread is highly interesting. Michigan is just about to start thawing out, and my Z will be on the roads soon. This year I've finally got the money to update the 12year old suspension.

Before realizing this was a zombie thread I thought JG was coming to the NCM match tour this year. Same weekend as prosolo now, great planning from the scca on that one. Also same weekend as KY Derby, kinda a big deal in this state, hopefully we can fill the event, I'm not even sure if I can make it.
