Any one with experience in this area? Specifically putting this trans behind a carbed engine? I found info stating the need for a VSS and a throttle position sensor. Both of which don't exist on my 75 Stingray. I would need a programmable PCM as well as a new trans cross-member/mount and drive-shaft. The PCMs are not cheap as best I can find via the Google.

I ask cause I have a trans on a pallet in my garage that I would like to use that came out of a 96 police cruiser. (I have the LT1 as well but it's in pieces on the bench and have no idea when I'd get to that!) Be nice to have the 4th gear and the overdrive to help with mileage. Some have suggested going with the 700-r4 instead.

    Ideas? Concerns? Suggestions.

    Thanks, George

you can buy a hell of a built 700r4 for the cost of the computer to run the 60-e, and all you need is a proper tv cable hookup and a lockup kit.

I have a Chevy Dually that I'm planning on switching over to 4L60E. It's a carbureted 454. Search around on the internet and you'll find useful info. As for the controller, I found this company http://www.becontrols.com/

You could also just convert it to full manual.....

Nah, too much work for my left leg in a tight foot well.

Yeah, but I already have the 4L. Should I sell it?

get a 700r4 to use for now with the lockup converter grounded thru the 4th gear pressure switch on the valve body and powered thru a mid '80's brake light switch.. if it lugs at part throttle and doesn't unlock the converter when trying to accelerate then you just add a TCC vacuum switch from an 86 Chev truck inline with the power switch from the brake pedal.. get a tv cable for a carbureted Camaro or Caprice or truck whatever, and a throttle bracket from an early 80's Cutlass, Regal, Caprice, Park Avenue, or pretty much anything with a 307 Olds motor in it. it just bolts to the rear carb mounting bolts and mounts the throttle and tv cables.

then you just swap the 4L60E in when you get the LT1 together and sell the 700r4.

should be able to pick up a good 700r4 for under $200.

This seems interesting for sure. Pics of the pieces?? Would using the 700 help my fuel mileage much to make it worth it? Suppose I could sell the TH400 or possibly trade for a 700r4.
