benzbaron, Uh, you know that plastic intakes are used on nearly everything right? 96-09 Mustangs, all 4.6 Crown Vics, all LS1/LS2/etc's, even most 4-cylinders now.

But back to your point, the non-PI 4.6's (that would be all pre-01 in CV/GM and all pre-99 Mustangs) had an engineering fault in the intakes allowing coolant to over pressurize and blow themselves up. It was a dumb mistake that Ford still doesn't admit too, and is probably one of the reasons people hate domestics so much.

I'm not a fanboi. I just like fast stuff that's cheap. Hence why there's also an RX-7 in the driveway and 100's of other cars have come and gone (including Honda's). If I'm creating a new class of fan, I'm sorry that it irritates you, but you still don't have to be such a jerk about it.

And why do you feel the need to regulate it? Seems on the arrogant side- "my car is better than yours" side of car people. IMHO, that's not being a car person.

    Perhaps that's just me.

There is no comparison between the P71 and the civilian versions.

yeah there is... car and driver or popular mechanics did it. the P71 version is slower in every respect and it handles worse.

    Ignorant,

Were you forced to spend way to much time in one as a kid? Are you just grumpy? Wait, was it George B's fault?

Why don't you go start a P71 bashing thread?

Have you driven both the civilian and the P71 versions of the Crown Vic? I have and there is a very noticeable difference in how they drive/feel and perform. I actually have also drive a GS ( I liked it very much) but 10k for a 03 is a bit steep.

As others have said comparing a Honda and a P71 is.. .. Well not comparable. How about comparing it to a Focus or an Escort. I just don't understand you insistence on making the comparison. It is a useless comparison.

Did some one insult your Honda? . . . Did I insult your Honda? Please apologise to your Honda for me if I did.

You are not "making friends and influencing people" here. Unfortunately your points/comments are coming across as condescending not as a friendly debate of a point of view.

Ohya . . The P71 is by far the "faster" car. People get out of your way and you get to where you are going faster.

Lighten up a bit. Why all the bad vibes and negative energy? I am sensing a disturbance in "The Force" here.

Form the page you linked I found this comment and chuckled.

    63. RE: Police Interceptor say what you want to about crown vic's but when i launched my 1993 p-71 vic 72 foot thru the air and was able to restart the car and drive it away after resetting the fuel cutoff switch and the other car rolled that says a lot to me about the vic's ya gotta give them respect by the way i'm still driving the car today FORD TOUGH

72 feet !!!!!!!! Dang I want more details on that one!!!!

For us old not so inter-web savvy people what does "fanboi" mean?

OK so there was an issue with the manifold aside from it just being plastic. I have two funky old cars so I'm just not used to seeing plastic in the engine compartment. Thanks for the information and now I have an answer as to why the intake popped. The only thing I don't like about the Vic is having a white and black one in my rearview mirror.

A "fanboi" is someone who is a big fan of something and hates on everything else.
